FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

But, but, but, the MORMONS do this? That can’t be.

It's the "fundamentalists" that exist in many religions that other people, who live in glass houses, make fun of.

Do you play with snakes?

And that ‘more’ must come through the LDS authority?

Well, then we will just have to disagree here...as we are free to do....if someone can come on here, and proclaim that they know for a surety, that every single thing that they believe, from the Bible, is true to the point of being infallible, and completely without error, I will be stunned...for we are all human, prone to error, and capable of making mistakes...unless of course, someone wishes to say that they are perfect, and makes no mistakes ever, no mistakes whatsoever...I believe that no one here is foolish enough to make such a claim....therefore, short of that claim, everyone here, can read the Bible, and make a mistake as to what it means...

When we pray we are talking to God, and when we read the scriptures the Lord is talking to us.

1- If we are in a humble place the Holy Spirit is able to help us in personal matters in decision making. (of the Lord does show up in other means to)

2- I find and I am sure many when reading passages we have been familiar with that when growth has taken place in us we see things we have not noticed before, it is a joy.

3- The Lord’s commandments and doctrine are consistent.

I am sure there is more but I am wrestling with blood sugar:)

To be able to answer your questions, I need to know your understanding of “salvation”.
I am purposefully not imposing my understanding of salvation on the Mormon definition and/or whatever your definition is...Is your definition a Mormon one?...that is what I have been asking for and have yet to receive.

If your definition is not a Mormon one, then please do not give it to me...I have only been asking for a Mormon definition and how I, as a non-Mormon, can obtain this salvation.

+++++++++++++++

since you will not help with your background, please point me to the posts by restornu you were talking about.

I would never rely on you for any information on this matter..

LOLOL! Good. Rely on Joseph Smith and other Mormon leaders, or perhaps Zakeet:

FIRST: MORMONISM REJECTS MANY ESSENTIAL CHRISTIAN DOCTRINES

In this article: We're Christians just like you!, the author presents a number of well-annotated examples.

If necessary, dozens of additional articles and illustrations can be found on this WEBSITE alone.

SECOND: THE MORMON CHURCH UNEQUIVOCALLY CONDEMNS CHRISTIANS AND CHRISTIANITY

And the angel of God said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth. And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the whore of all the earth, and she sat upon many waters; and she had dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people. – Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 14:10-11

My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong) – and which I should join. … I was answered by God that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.” He again forbade me to join with any of themProphet Joseph Smith, Joseph Smith History 1:18-20

Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century. – Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.167

The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God. – Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:171

Brother Taylor has just said that the religions of the day were hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its borders, and then kicked on to the earth." – Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 6:176

Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom. – Prophet John Taylor, Journal of Discourses, 10:127

Are Christians ignorant? Yes, as ignorant of the things of God as the brute beast. – Prophet John Taylor, Journal of Discourses 13:225

What does the Christian world know about God? Nothing ... Why so far as the things of God are concerned, they are the veriest fools; they know neither God nor the things of God. – Prophet John Taylor, Journal of Discourses 13:225

The Book of Mormon remains secure, unchanged and unchangeable … but with the Bible it was not and is not so … it was once in the sole and exclusive care and custody of an abominable organization (Christianity), founded by the devil himself, likened prophetically unto a great whore, whose great aim and purpose was to destroy the souls of men in the name of religion. In these hands it ceased to be the book it once was. – Apostle Bruce R. McConkie, The Joseph Smith Translation, pp. 12, 13

In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints "do not believe in the traditional Christ.”No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. – Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, LDS Church News, June 20, 1998, p.7

Many more similar quotes of Mormon leaders slamming Christians HERE and HERE.

THIRD: THE MORMON CHURCH ITSELF REJECTS CHRISTIANITY

Beginning with Joseph Smith, Mormon prophets have steadfastly proclaimed all Christian denominations were in a state of apostasy.

This raises an interesting question. A heretic is someone who rejects one or more doctrines of religion, but an apostate is someone who has rejected the religion entirely. How is it, exactly, that someone can be something they have completely dismissed? How does that work?

No need to respond; this is for the benefit of lurkers (and Zakeet, who previously prepared this information).

That warning was for the Book of Revelation

Each book is a book unto itsself in the Bible.

BTW Book of Revelation was not John last book

If what you said was true we would have stop at

Deuteronomy 4

2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

>>[But, but, but, the MORMONS do this? That can’t be.]

What’s funny is that Mormons repeatedly tell us that merely claiming to be Christian is the same as being Christian, but any polygamists claiming to be true Mormons must be ostracized because they aren’t true Mormons.<<

There are extremist cults as off shoots of just about any religion. My family is all Baptist but to be fair, many cross burners and lynchers have claimed to be Baptists and good Christians.

Besides, this isn’t adult polygamy we are talking about - these are cults that force underage girls - that’s very different than a society where an adult man can marry a second adult wife if the first adult wife consents.

I beg your pardon...you just stated..

“LOLOL! Good. Rely on Joseph Smith and other Mormon leaders, or perhaps Zakeet:”

What in the world might you even be talking about...if you are saying that I am a Mormon, if you are sayiang that I follow the teachings of Joseph Smith, or that I follow other Mormon leaders or Zakeet. you would then be a liar....a spreader of falsehood...

I have never been a Mormon, I am not now studying to be a Mormon, and I dont foresee ever becoming a Mormon...

But you, for whatever reason, have seen fit to intimate that I follow the teachings of Joseph Smith, other Mormon leaders and Zakeet...there is enough bad that one can say about me or anyone else, so spreading lies and falsehoods is stupid, and unChristian...

When my dad was diagnosed with diabetes I had to help him getting used to using his monitor, and that was almost 20 years ago...I think the only reason he became diabetic was because he was diagnosed with cancer, and often the elderly diagnosed with cancer, also wind up being diagnosed as diabetic...but his was easily controllable and we never had a problem with the diabetes...

Mom, some of my best friends have been members of the Mormon belief. I do not judge them or you or anyone. I am just posting (as did nicmarlo) that what the Bible says we believe is inspired by God.

I had a friend who studied Hebrew and Greek, so she could translate original scripture word for word, and therefor satisfy herself that no changes had occurred with the passage of years.

She only found two very small changes - one was the word ‘and’ to ‘also’ and I don’t remember the other one. She spent nearly her entire adult life in this study.

God speaks to us individually through His Word. But, He never tells us to change HIS word - ever.

Please try to understand that Christians are Guardians of His Word, and in our hearts, cannot accept that Word being added to, or changed less than 200 years ago.

I don’t think the Mormons are alone in deciding that no church has gotten the Lord’s intent and set out to do better only to find their human failings introduce new problems.

In fact that’s pretty much the story of every every church.

Well, I’ve seen programs about that group or some like it...

The state claim they can do little or nothing so there is a type of condoning in the lack of activity on the state’s part...
