The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Jeremiah 17:5
...and yet, I would have to guess that the majority of American Christians - perhaps even the vast majority - choose churches not based on what those churches teach or do, but on how attending one service or another makes them feel. Instead of rejecting out of hand a church that would promote gay marriage, accept abortion, allow the worship of pagan gods, or even build a mosque, they are swayed by praise and worship music or sacramentalism into ignoring the termites beneath the foundation.

Exactly as Chesterton describes, I had ceased to pull against the Catholic Church, and was definitely being tugged towards her. I was beginning to ask that she be fairly treated and a secret fondness was waxing in the hidden recesses of my heart. For what it's worth, that's where my journey began as well. From the time I was a child, I had heard and read some pretty outrageous things said about the Church, and the more I heard, the more my common sense told me that this was just not fair. Researching the issues led me to ask why so many people were attacking the Church so vociferously. And just as Chesterton says, once I began looking for Fairness, I found Truth.

**Emancipation from the necessity to judge others has been one of the glories of the journey! At Mass **
His wisdom brings tears to my eyes, as does his story about learning the Rosary. Wow!
