"Deliver Us From Evil" is the story of Father Oliver O'Grady, the most notorious pedophile in the history of the modern Catholic Church. Completely lacking in moral fiber and devoid of any sense of shame or guilt, O'Grady used his charm and authority to violate dozens of faithful Catholic families across Northern California for more than two decades. His victims ranged from a nine month-old infant to the middle-aged mother of another adolescent victim.
Despite early warning signs and complaints from several parishes, the Church, in an elaborate shell game designed to avoid liability and deflect criticism, lied to parishioners and local law enforcement, while continuing to move O'Grady from parish to parish.
Over the years, O'Grady successfully exploited mothers and fathers in order to get to their children. His penchant for sexual mayhem was as essential to him as breathing, and internal Church documents prove that since 1973, he raped and sodomized with the full knowledge of his Catholic superiors.
Remarkably, "Deliver Us From Evil" filmmaker Amy Berg tracked down Father O'Grady and persuaded him to participate in the making of her film. O'Grady's account of his years in various Northern California parishes is chilling and he tells his story without remorse or self-reflection. Also included in the film is never-before-seen footage of the deposition of Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony and his former second-in-command, Monsignor Cain. She also interviews canon lawyer and medieval historian Fr. Thomas Doyle, former priests, lawyers and the abuse survivors themselves.

The difference in the Southern Baptist, we don’t have a hierarchy that would move them around. Our horizontal structure is such that if someone is doing something wrong, they’re out. I can assure you word gets around and that person won’t find another job.
This is not true in all Protestant groups who have a hierarchical structure like the Catholics. Just ask the Anglicans about the problems with these structures.
To simply think that this happens in “all” groups is simply admitting that no one wants to deal with the problem.
That I agree with.
But you would think that at some point a true church would stand back and say "Wait a just a minute..."
So that leaves the question to be answered: why are pro-abortion politicians still welcome at communion? Is it because abortion rules are really there to keep the poor oppressed and don't apply to the rich and powerful?
I'm really not a conspiracy guy, but on this one I really have to wonder.

The Vatican is not directly involved in the posting of Catholic clergy. That responsibility rests with the successive bishops of the archdiocese, one of whom would have been Mahony, the current cardinal-archbishop of LA and the former bishop of Stockton.
Many of us were hopeful that he might have been handed a stint in the hoosegow for obstruction of justice in this whole affair, but alas, it has not yet come to pass.
Are you suggesting that the presence of rotten apples in the hierarchy implies that the concept of hierarchy should be done away with? That's a rather silly solution, if you don't mind me saying so.
"Hierarchies" exist at all levels of secular and religious society and are essential. The military and the government are both hierarchies. They wouldn't function without it. Indeed, your family is a hierarchy. At least I hope so, unless the kids are on the same level as the parents.
Furthermore, the absence of a hierarchy can be just as conducive to the covering up of malfeasance if there is nobody of sufficient character or authority to stand up to it. To whom does one go with a complaint? Who has the clout and the ability to enforce rulings?
Clearly, neither a hierarchy nor its absence is a guarantee against corruption and its cover up.

Bishops move priests from one parish within their diocese to another. The Vatican gets involved if a priest transfers from one diocese to another, but it's a rubber stamp if both bishops involved are in agreement. The guilt for moving this joker around is at the feet of the bishop(s) involved, not the Vatican.

You should see the DVD. Ratzinger was briefed on the situation and obviously, his wishes were carried out as far as what transpired, from the 1970's to the present.
Well, we can and do certainly thank God for Luther and Calvin and all Reformers who reclaimed the Gospel truth that man is justified by the one-time, perfect, God-ordained atonement of Jesus Christ alone.

Keating is shown on the DVD. His report was issued and ignored. No surprise there.
The documentary does an excellent job of showing that the RCC protects the priestly class because the RCC believes the priestly class to be closer to God than the laity, a privileged group of men who can do just about anything they want and get away with it under the guise of the cloth.
But God will not be mocked, and each will answer for his sins, just like the rest of us.
I hope you see the DVD. It is devastatingly specific.
Which is why the Scriptural, Presbyterian, diagonal form of church governance is optimal. 8~)
If Mahony actually did what then Cardinal Ratzinger suggested, it would mark a truly historical moment. It would be an absolute first. He's made a career out of ignoring Vatican directives and suggestions.
They can't have it both ways.
They can't cultivate a liberal American Church which flouts Vatican directives and makes its own rules and then throw up their hands in innocence and say "I was only following orders" when things go wrong and the chickens come home to roost.
Fact check. Keating was the chairman of the national committee. He was on it for a year, not a week. He resigned after he made a comment comparing some bishops' obfuscatory behavior to that of Mafiosi (I'm paraphrasing) and one bishop complained publicly.
That bishop's name would be ... Mahony.
