What’s your theological worldview? [light entertainment]
The Confessing Reader ^ | 6/15/2005 | Confessing Reader

Posted on 06/16/2005 8:28:52 AM PDT by sionnsar

For a few minutes’ light entertainment, you might consider taking the “What’s you theological worldview quiz“. My results indicated a significant affinity for Neo-Orthodoxy (”You reject the human-centredness and scepticism of liberal theology, but neither do you go to the other extreme and make the Bible the central issue for faith. You believe that Christ is God’s most important revelation to humanity, and the Trinity is hugely important in your theology. The Bible is also important because it points us to the revelation of Christ. You are influenced by Karl Barth and P T Forsyth.”), followed closely by Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan.

The quiz has several of those, “But that question misses the point” sort of questions, (so I had a number of neutral responses), but I suppose this makes some sense. Though I long identified more with the Calvinist/Reformed side of the magisterial Reformation, I have in later years been more influenced by the theology of Barth (of course, Barth is a Reformed theologian) and by writers like Lesslie Newbigin and Robert Jenson, for whom the person of Jesus and the triune being of God is absolutely central.

I’m not so sure about that Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan result, save that I have some affinity for the Wesley brothers’ evangelical High Anglicanism, deeply sacramental and deeply rooted in the Scriptures, and for their early high estimation of the Church Fathers.

Thanks to Will over at Prydain for the link to the quiz.

"You scored as Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan.

You are an evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition. You believe that God's grace enables you to choose to believe in him, even though you yourself are totally depraved. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives you assurance of your salvation, and he also enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us. You are influenced heavly by John Wesley and the Methodists."

What a surprise. I am 100 percent Roman Catholic.

Quiz is a little simplistic - uses buzz words.

But you're right, it's fun. (Amusing that somebody who is 100 percent Roman Catholic is 82 percent Wesleyan!)

You scored as Roman Catholic. You are Roman Catholic. Church tradition and ecclesial authority are hugely important, and the most important part of worship for you is mass. As the Mother of God, Mary is important in your theology, and as the communion of saints includes the living and the dead, you can also ask the saints to intercede for you.

Yep, I agree with you there.

This was my score:

Roman Catholic 100%

Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan 75%
Neo orthodox 71%
Fundamentalist 64%
Classical Liberal 32%
Reformed Evangelical 29%
Emergent/Postmodern 18%
Charismatic/Pentecostal 14%
Modern Liberal 0%

I'm not exactly sure how all those other terms are defined by the author, nor how the percentages can add up to more than 100%, however, I am relieved to know that "modern liberal" was 0%. =D

I'm Orthodox and I scored 93% RC, 89% Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan (OK, I grew up Methodist.) Looks like what they say is true -- Orthodoxy is America's best kept secret.

I guess I'm a fundamentalist. Here I always thought of myself as flexible. ;O)

I'm not quite so sure that I would agree that "science is opposed to faith as it contradicts basic biblical truths".

You scored as Fundamentalist.

You are a fundamentalist. You take the Bible as the foundation of your faith and read it very literally, and it shapes your worldview. Non-fundamentalist Christians have watered-down the Gospel in your view, and academic study of the Bible stops us from 'taking God at his word.' Science is opposed to faith, as it contradicts basic biblical truths.

Reformed Evangelical 71%
Neo orthodox 46%
Emergent/Postmodern 21%

I'm Anglican. I don't think the Pope is the head of the universal church and I do not ask saints to intercede for me. This quiz missed on me.

I came out as a Classical Liberal at 75%, a Wesleyan at 71%.

Btw, Modern Liberal - 14%.

I'm sure this is because I consider myself a Dianist - organized religion is not important, it is my inner faith in God and Jesus that sustains me. In my opinion, and I think reflected in the test, all religions have strayed from the word of God in some way or another.

Of course, this 'test' misses the boat when you factor in non-Christians. It would be interesting to see a test for Christian vs Islam vs Hindu vs Buddhist, etc.
