Rush a 'Little Frustrated' by Drug Allegations

Political commentator Rush Limbaugh (search) returned to his popular radio program Friday and said he was "frustrated" about allegations that he was involved in the sale and use of illegal drugs.

Limbaugh was back on the air one day after his name surfaced as the possible target of a criminal probe into the sale and use of illegal drugs in south Florida.

On the national program, which is carried by about 650 stations across the country, Limbaugh spoke briefly about the allegations of his drug use but avoided going into specifics. He said he was "a little frustrated" that he had not "gotten to the bottom" of what was happening.

"The story in Florida really is an emerging situation ... I don't really know the full scope of what I'm dealing with," he said. Limbaugh said he'd been humbled by all the supportive e-mails he'd received from fans, estimating he'd received about 25,000.

As for all the media stories that have emerged about the drug investigation, Limbaugh said that he was "tempted" to respond to them but "I'm not going to go there."

But he vowed to discuss the case in detail in the future.

"Rest assured, I will discuss this with you and tell you how it is ... maybe more than you really want to know about this," he said.

Maybe Limbaugh thinks highly of the intelligence of his listeners and figures they are smart enough to realize he is being quiet on the advice of his attorneys.

I don't see why he wouldn't just say that's what he's doing. Why make anyone guess?

he should accept the consequences of his actions and be thrown in jail and treated as harshly by the courts as any street junkie would be.

I understand your point, but I don't want to see anyone thrown in jail for drug crimes.

There are many people who are functional drug users. Are people in chronic pain junkies for wanting to be pain free? Rush has been going deaf for some time, and possibly he went to great lengths to alleviate it.
Ironically, Rush comes down on the hardline side of the fence when it comes to drug offenses. None of us can say for sure if the allegations are true or not yet. But I hope that if they are true, maybe this will illustrate how easy it can be to fall into addiction. Maybe other conservatives will realize the true value (and savings to us the taxpayers) of funding treatment insead of incarceration. If they realize that someone who truly believed addiction is wrong could fall victim to it himself.

I don't either because I oppose the war on drugs. But when drug warriors are guilty of what they oppose, they should feel the harsh penalties they have demanded be imposed on others.

I don't understand it either. It is very confusing and not helping the situation.

Why would he be foolish to say, "I neither illegally acquired prescription painkillers nor asked or allowed anyone to do so for me"?

I've sat out these discussions but now feel that I must comment to those asking why Rush never gave a flat out denial:

A blanket "I never" is the worst possible thing that anyone can say, uness it is specific to one and only one thing, i.e. - I never had sex with that woman, Ms Lewiski. A statement like that does not deny, sex with that other woman, only the subject of the denial.

Now, let's look further into this. Assume that Rush was out of a certain pill (use Claritin as an example since it was once regulated). Rush has a sinus problem one day and the cleaning lady gives him a Claritin. Two years later, after this "revelation", he makes the mistake of a blanket "I never obtained prescriptiond drugs from ....

When the Claritin issue comes up, then it's, well I never obtained any such and such from .... until the media now can say Rush denail proven wrong, he did obtain prescription medications from .....

Better to say nothing at all then make a statement that may be false, even if it's over one pill.

That's my opinion, but thten again I'm not a lawyer, only an interested bystander.

Mr. Bell has always had a 7 second call delay...

My info comes from an old thread in which somebody said they got through to Bell, and heard his own call a couple of minutes
after he was done. That led to a production discussion...

I never got through to Art Bell the few times I wanted to talk to the guest. However, I'll take credit for one of the
emails that led to Art no longer opening with "...24 time zones...".

It's awful of me to notice this - but it's ironic to listen to Rush's advertisements now. Talking about the "sleep number" bed and how he used to not be able to get a good night's sleep. All seems so different in the context of his alleged drug use.

I know what you mean. Also - the morning spot that Rush does here on our local station - of all days - (and I didn't hear it all) - addiction, etc. was discussed. Again - I didn't hear it all - but it was just very ironic. I pray that Rush will be ok.

Unfortuantely you live in America, where our system of justice is based on the disproved theory of Deterrence. Someone might do a cost-benefit analysis when they are speeding, but not when they are a user violating drug laws at the level that is being described.
Drug laws do just that. Tommy Chong is in jail for owning a company that makes bongs, and Saddam Heussein and Osama bin Laden can sail their yacht into California, get drivers' licenses, and register to vote for Bustamante. When will people wake up and smell reality?

Yea, sure. The Enquirer has never been wrong about anything.

Right! And people who haven't broken the law frequently hire high-priced criminal lawyers like Roy (Rush's New Lawyer) Black.

"I'd be the house on the former."

Where is the house and do you have a mortgage?

when Rush ultimately finds out exactly who is behind this smear campaign,

I am going to bet it is the same guy that sold super computers and encryption technology to China that allowed them to target the US. But Rush is unlikely to have any more luck in proving it than the Senate did in concluding that he lied to a federal grand jury, lied to a federal judge and lied to the American people.

I would think that Mr. Black explained to him that it could be folly to do so.

Main Entry: fol·ly
Pronunciation: 'fä-lE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural follies
Etymology: Middle English folie, from Old French, from fol fool
Date: 13th century
1 : lack of good sense or normal prudence and foresight

On Fox News at around 1:30 PM the private investigator for the National Enquirer was being interviewed. The last question asked to him was have the maid or her husband had run in's with the law. His answer was the maid was clean but the husband had a trouble about 10 years ago and 2 years ago. Then the story that the National Enquirer held the story for 2 years comes out. Doesn't it strike anyone in the media as odd that the husband had a run in with the law 2 years ago and the maid just happen to sell the story 2 years ago - for Money! Possibly the pay bail or lawyers fees. Something wrong with this picture

Well, what if his maid was picking up his medication for him. Now this, and he's not sure of his culpability in the matter

Now think that through. I'm sure you'll see what his culpability just might be.
