I didn't give up, just signed off for the night. Rush did what was right. Eventually, he was going to be fired for something he said either on ESPN or his show either now or in the past. Best that he did the show and give his opinions the best that he can. When a soldier dies on a sucide mission, that is not giving up!

I think it's D He wanted to make a point about the racial PC level that exists in the media. It will not hurt and only help him in his real job, which is the EIB. Meanwhile a white democrat can say nigger on TV if he wants and no one bats an eye.

I really wish Rush would have hung in there. I think most people would have been behind him.

Not really. He was wrong to touch the race issue and he was even wrong on his analysis which makes him look racist.

McNab is been promoted, but only because he is a high profile name, not because he is black. The NFL would also like to promote Tim Couch over Kelly Holcomb (both white qb's at cleveland) because Couch is a bigger name. In McNabb's case, the NFL wanted a big name. It's called the star system. The NFL does not care about steve McNair even though he is black, because McNair is not a big name.

If you take on a touchy issue like race, you need to be absolutely right, and here he was dead wrong.

That's still C or A. Either (C) he knew that would put an end to his gig, or (A) he dint.

I can't come up with any examples of someone who made it...and kept it made

Jim Cavievel and Mel Gibson come to mind.

"It is time for him to do a blitz on the left and how some of them should have been fired."

I think he will on his show today. This has been blown out of proportion. If, a liberal had said it, nothing would have been made of it. They would have laughed and the show would have gone on.

Heard some black guy on TV this morning saying that Rush remained so defiant yesterday concerning his "racist remarks" that he had no choice but to quit. Complete bs...but that is your left-wing at work today and being brought to you by anti-republican-conservative television news stations and their friendly advertisers.

Do you have a problem understanding that both Rush and Dixie Chicks said idiotic things that upset their customers and that in both cases freedom of speech did not mean freedom to keep receiving money from those disgruntled customers?

Wrong. The campaign against Rush's remarks was not started by ESPN's "customers", but was instigated as a "spin-and-destroy" campaign, 48 hours after the comments, and fueled by print and broadcast media.

I agree and hate to say this, but I think what is different about him is his anger. Somebody else on this thread said that Rush has it all but is self-destructing. That's a lesson to us all.

Rush said McNabb was overrated because of his race. If he had just said McNabb was being carried by his defense, he would have been fine, although that's hardly brillian commentary since the same thing can be said of most NFL quarterbacks. Offense gets the publicity but defense wins championships.

He did exactly what he was hired to do and did it very well

If he did exactly what he was hired to do why doesn't he have the job anymore? Yeah, doing something a consumate broadcast professional should know would likely end your dream gig is stupid.

Did you forget to close a sarcasm tag, or did you really mean that?

This isn't an issue of political correctness. It is insulting to tell a black man that the only reason he is held in estime is his race.

In this case it's not true. Yeah, McNabb is carried by his defense. Most NFL quarterbacks are. But that doesn't lead to the conclusion he is overrated because of his race. Look up his QB rating - he's in the middle of the pack. Not bad for a QB on a struggling team.

My observation is that most quarterbacks in the big northeastern media markets are overrated because they get most of the media attention. On the other hand, quarterbacks in flyover country get overlooked. They always put down John Elway, IMHO one the best ever.

Football is a ruthless business. If a player is no longer producing or someone else can produce better, he's cut, with no remorse. The idea the Philly would keep McNabb around because of his race if he's not producing is laughable.

I just shake my head when I think of groups like Bill McCartney's Promise Keepers who have worked so hard for racial reconciliation and then something like this comes along. Truth is many of the most integrated institutions in the country are conservative, like the military, sports teams, many evangelical congregations, big business. But Rush just went out and reinforced the stereotype that conservatives and Republicans are racist as the election cycle is beginning. He did not help the cause.

I think he will on his show today.

Not today. He's gone, to make the keynote speech at the Nat'l Assoc. of Broadcasters meeting (how convenient! ;O). That Sullivan guy from Sacramento is filling in today.

This has been blown out of proportion.

Sure it has. But, Rush should have known it would be.

Let's face it. He had half his brain tied behind his back, and that only works when he's sitting behind the golden EIB microphone.

now all he's going to be remembered for with black NFL fans is knocking McNabb and also mentioning his race.

You may be right... with "supporters" like you.

Why not spend more time pointing out the positive statements Rush made about race in week one? Or the many other positive relationships Rush has with black conservatives, any number of which have screened calls, guest hosted, invited him to their weddings (Clarence Thomas), etc., etc., etc.

We don't need the liberal media making a big deal over it if so-called supporters are wringing their hands and ignoring the truth.

He implied that he was getting credit because he is black.

He implied that he was getting extra credit because he is black. Makes a huge difference.

And, further, he implied the extra credit was being provided by a media eager to fawn over a black quarterback. So, in essence, it's the fawning media that is racist... which of course they'll never admit. It's the old liberal "white guilt" thing.
