what Rush did was really stupid. He threw away his dream gig. He basically called McNabb an affirmative action baby.

You're simply endorsing the Left's way of thinking and behaving. For that, you deserve our deprecation and the same from all patriots.

You are endorsing the trashing of our Free Speech rights, implicitly saying that uttering un-PC speech deserves to get one fired from one's job.

That's despicable and un-American. Repent or be accursed.

Well I wonder how many women dittoheads like myself were planning to tune in to ESPN. BUT I wonder if this had more to do with that ridiculous drug charge than his statements? No one on the ESPN panel challenged him AND what's more someone AGREED with him.

I'm not into the gridiron stuff. I wonder how many dittoheads are going to watch ESPN.

This whole thing is a national scale version of a guy accidently calling a female fellow employee girl and her turning out to be a flaming feminist. It was a non-PC act that no one would really care about unless their "you hurt my feelings" bone was honed to a razor edge.

What a GREAT commentary. Thanks very much for posting this.

As for Rush's resignation, the answer lies in his own words. He said his "opinion caused discomfort for the crew." If that is so, I can understand why a man of Rush's integrity would resign for the good of the show. I'm disappointed, but I can understand why he felt he needed to do this.

thx for the kind words...what's interesting is that the other commentators did argue good points why Rush was incorrect about McNabb, he is a star, but ESPN just seemed uncomfy with the controversy...and missed the point Rush was making. In a way, he had to be sacrificed to prove his point.

I do not believe the story about Rush and the so called pills. However, Bill Clinton was the FREAKING PRESIDENT and did cocaine and smoked pot!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do they ever go after any other media personalities like this? This is all a set up to distract Rush from talking about the recall and more importantly the president elections, etc.

I think what we're seeing is the Dim's testing their smear machinery on a variety of Conservative figures, seeing how much they can blow up irrelevant or small things and what effect it has on the recall. This is just a tune up for 2004. They're gonna be coming after FR too, getting more publications to tell us to stop posting their articles. Hold on, the ride's gonna get rough!

LIMBAUGH RESIGNS

Sounds like Rush self-destructed. And for the same reason he feels Vermont Dean will eventually self-destruct.

Rush got out of his element, his radio program, and out among the common folk where someone else determines the rules, and kablooey. It was one thing to make his comments on ESPN in a generic manner, but when he started mentioning names (i.e., Donovan MacNab), then they became unacceptable and easy to criticize.

It's ironic that he self-destructed before Dean did. Rush may have been born to sit behind his EIB microphone, but he sure wasn't born to sit behind an ESPN microphone. Nor was I born to listen to him.

It's not about cutting and running. It's about knowing that the Liberal hate machine has a nuclear missile pointed at your forehead and they WILL use it. They are not known for playing by "rules".

Yes but Rush is too smart not to have known that the first time he said the unPC word BLACK, those nukes would be brought out. So what is his real plan?

Re your post 48 and the other threads about Rush's supposed addiction to pain pills. He could be but I don't believe that he went around begging for them in the manner some folks bum a cigarette from a friend. Look, the man is a millionaire many times over. Hasn't it occurred to anyone that if Rush wanted such pills that he could pay a less-than-scrupulous doctor big bucks to write out prescriptions to a third-party for delivery to him? Or even lean on one of his friends who are physicians? Damn. That's so obvious.

A man who owns his own plane, pays cash for his own medical treatments, plays in the classiest golf tournaments, has pals in Hollywood, medicine, government, national sports, and in every industry, and is known all around the world -- can only get a drug fix through a maid, and meets her at a Denny's for pick-up/delivery?

I'm posting this well after the discussion of this was fired up, but I want to chime in to agree with you. I have no opinion either way on the topic of McNabb, and do not have enough information to form one.

Regardless of the validity of Rush's statement, it was inappropriate and stupid to say what he did on that show. That was NOT the proper place or time, and I am surprised he miscalculated so badly. Rush has a forum to discuss concerns about the media - his show; and he does an excellent job. If he wanted to make a point about Mcnabb being over-rated while at ESPN he should and could have done so with statistics or specific views about the defense of the team. The difficulty was that Rush seemed to be gunnin' for the media, not Mcnabb. I say again, that show was absolutely the wrong place to get into discussions about the media.

This is not a "free speech" issue either. Don't tell me you (those touting this issue) are unaware that if you "tell the truth" at work any time you like that they will not find a way to show you the door. This is no different.

I will miss Rush not being on the show. I have always appreciated his well informed opinion on football. I hope his foot heals soon from the gunshot wound and he gets a chance to get back on the air, but I'm not counting on it anytime soon.

I don't care if Kordell Stewart is black, an alien, has four eyes or is Gandalf the Wizard...I could be a better QB than him and I never played the game.

Exactly! And the media has expressed such sentiments (though not in the same language) about Kordell. Which undercuts the argument that poorly performing black qb's are protected by the media.

Yes but Rush is too smart

He said he was "living his dream" or something to that effect in doing NFL football commentary. Then, he goes and does something so blatantly stupid (in retrospect).

Either (a) he's not as smart as you think, (b) he wasn't living his dream or, (c) he decided to end the dream.

Knowing the way he gushes about football, I think we can eliminate "B" without question. Sounds like you opted for "C" but, I can't eliminate "A".

Maybe he didn't realize that he shouldn't leave half his brain tied behind his back when he comes out from behind the golden EIB microphone.

Did you have problems with the square, round and triangle pegs and their corresponding holes as a child too?

Nope. Do you have a problem understanding that both Rush and Dixie Chicks said idiotic things that upset their customers and that in both cases freedom of speech did not mean freedom to keep receiving money from those disgruntled customers?

Well, I expected this. It was a VERY STUPID thing for Rush to say. Not that it was true or not, nor that he intended to be racist or not. Rather, HE is the spokesman for conservatives in the USA, he is and has been a huge target of the left. He should have known that the libs would jump all over anything, anything he said that even hinted at race. He misjudged the backlash on this and THAT is the biggest surprise.

Right. More gas for them to put on the conservatives-are-racist flames. I don't think that what he said was racist either, but it was stupid.

He knows what happens when someone makes a comment about race. Hasn't he watched enough people ruin their careers because they made a comment that the media interpreted as racist?

Rush will recover, but he did hurt the conservative movement. Many people will only hear the news reports that Rush Limbaugh made a racist comment.

I do think it's a shame that he's apparently not entitled to express his opinion, but he had to know that there would be a loud cry from the left that he step down or be fired if he said something like that, and he said it anyway.

Race is the one topic that is poison for conservatives to bring up. In a hostile environment, Rush did it twice in four weeks -- McNabb & the head coaching situation in Detroit. I can't imagine why. I agreed with his comments about the Detroit situation, but thought his comment about McNabb was way off the reservation. He should have known he'd get smacked down with that kind of comment whether it was true or not.

Rush said he wasn't commenting on blacks in football, but about media bias. Frankly, Rush has five days a week to comment on media bias on his own show. I thought his job at ESPN was to talk football.

Rush has unfortunately confirmed what the critics said when he was hired -- he couldn't keep away from politics. He did the right thing in resigning, but a lot of damage has been done.

Rush has done great things for the conservative cause, but he let down the team big time on this one.

It's been a lousy week for conservatives. I'm just sick at what's gone on with "Leakgate" and Rush.

First it was Miguel Estrada, and the whole recall situation with the smear campaign of Arnold, now Rush. Want to know what I did when I heard about this thing with Rush?
Irrelevant people are very dangerous. I mean the liberals, the civil rights activists, the feminazis, etc. They know how useless they are and no one cares.

You are right about them coming after FR though.
