WHICH MCCLINTOCK TO BELIEVE? TOM PROMISED HE WOULDN'T BE A SPOILER
KFI 640 | Matt Garrett

Posted on 10/01/2003 2:01:48 PM PDT by MattGarrett

On today's RECALL CENTRAL on KFI 640, they had the head of the "Lincoln Republicans" of Orange County. He stated that Tom McClintock had assured him that he would not stay in the race to play spoiler if it looked like he couldn't win. He promised that he would bow out before the election if his numbers didn't assure victory.

Other Cal GOP leaders were quoted as saying the same.

And yet, McClintock has vowed to stay in the race to the bitter end.

So, the question is ...

Which McClintock do we believe?

Your hypotheical is ridiculous, and so is your corresponding assumption.

Thanks for playing. You lose.

I think I'll pray harder for a McClintock surprise win...

God could make that happen still.

That cartoon reminds me of a little story.

Two psychologists, Ed and Don, shared a counseling practice. They always scheduled sessions so that they could take lunch together at the neighboring diner and discuss business, their patients and trivial personal details. One Monday, Ed noticed that Don looked a little ragged. Ed said "Don, you look awful. Whats up?"

"Oh, just a little trouble over saturday dinner", Don replied. "I had a little Freudian slip at the dining room table."

"Freudian slip?", Ed asked.

"Freudian slip", Don replied. "My wife and I were sitting there, quietly eating, and I meant to ask her to pass the salt, but thats not what came out".

"Well, what Did come out?", Ed asked.

Don sied, looked down at his shoes and said "well, instead of saying 'pass the salt', what came out was 'you f***ing w****, you're ruining my life'. Major Freudian slip".

Like I said, Tom got 50% in 02, no reason he can't repeat.

There two good reasons why you can't apply Tom's percentage in the Controller's race last year to this recall. 1) Tom ran against an absolute nobody in the Controller's race (and still lost). Now he's up against more high-profile competition. 2) Tom was born to be State Controller, with his wonkish accountant personality. He isn't a good fit for the office of Governor. He'll be lucky to get one-fourth the percentage he received in his Controller run.

Several sources all saying Tom broke his word.

If that were not enough his continued presence in a lost race speaks mountains and had ended his career nicely.

Yours is opinion based on desire.

Desire for a conservative to win, and liberals to lose, unlike yourself.

If you respect Brulte, as I do, then citing him as supporting AS is noteworthy.

Wrong. If you respect a man...ANY man who supports Arnold you're a RINO who wants, among other things, to use taxpayers' dollars to kill babies.

So say Tom supporters.

Tom McClintock is EARNING this ridicule and resentment though. He is UNETHICAL and is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Poppycock.

I have no such desire. I "desire" to see cruz bustamant lose. Arnold is the only man who can make that happen.

No such organization.

Found it right at the top of a Google search: "Lincoln Republicans of Orange County" (and it's called the "Lincoln Club," not "Lincoln Republicans").

"The Lincoln Club is the largest and most active political club in the United States. Its has shaped California and national politics for almost forty years. Many of southern California's most successful business leaders are among its members.

"Like many good stories, The Lincoln Club of Orange County's begins with bloodshed. In 1962, Richard Nixon returned to California to run for Governor. He was considered a heavy favorite to beat Governor Pat Brown, but he had to get by the primary challenge of Orange County native Joe Shell in order to win the nomination. The primary campaign was nasty. Many observers believed that, even though he survived to win the nomination, it was because Nixon had been so bloodied in the primary that he lost the general election against Pat Brown.

The business elite of Orange County, many of whom supported Nixon, believed that they should try to impose a business-like order on state politics and avoid such primary battles. But, instead of shunning Shell supporters, they reached out to them. The Nixon boosters offered the Shell men membership in the new club.

Its founders included the most prominent business leaders in Orange County, including Dr. Arnold O. Beckman, the founder of Beckman Instruments, Walter Knott, the founder of Knott's Berry Farm, and Si Fluor of the Flour Corporation.

The club membership is still comprised of the most public-spirited and prominent business men and women in our community today, including Donald Kennedy of First American Financial Corporation, William Foley of Fidelity National Title Company, Donald Sodaro of Hanford Hotels, and George Argyros of Arnel Development. The club has approximately 300 members.

Hundreds of candidates throughout Orange County, our state, and across the nation owe their start to the Lincoln Club. The club has played a pivotal role in the candidacies of Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Pete Wilson, and George Deukmejian. Richard Nixon and John Wayne were once members.

The Lincoln Club works to reduce the power and scope of government. It pushes for lower taxes, smaller bureaucracies, and more freedom for us all.

Hardly. It's the stark reality of California politics.

That's R-E-A-L-I-T-Y.

Look it up.

don't try to score debating points

Actually Jim had three posts that I'm aware of, #1 he was for Tom, #2 he was anti a lot of liberal idiocy, #3 he was 'sadened' at the demonization going on.

I like seeing his remarks, often, so to inform those who may have missed them. It's better than " only Arnold can win" repeated adnauseum. It's better than the ChenyChick's stupid cartoons, photos, over and over and over. And FairOpinion with her moderate to liberal sellouts clapping after each senseless post.

I think this may be what some of the folks in this fight intended all along -- instead of focusing on Cruz/Davis, their attacks from day one against Arnold set the stage for no talk about the RATs. The DemocRATs have been doing this for years and are quite good at splitting groups. I refuse to believe some of the spin I have seen written on here is from conservatives. If it is, then I don't know those type of conservatives.

The clincher to me is that Issa and other Conservative Republicans have said that Tom told them he won't be a spoiler but they have chosen to believe one man instead of the others when they are all conservatives. For me, I basically gave up when they started spinning the Indian donations along with the glowing praise from the DemocRATs -- if they couldn't see through that then I have my real doubts about their being Republican to begin with.

At times, it has felt like some of the pro-McC folks are reading from talking point papers. No one will ever convince me that calling all of us RINO's along with some very conservative Republican politicians was not sent out to a group of folks. First time I saw Issa called a RINO some of the McC people on here now could not believe it happened either.

Think we have at least two groups maybe three that belong to the McC supporters. We have the people that truly believe in McC and what he stands for, the people that are here to cause trouble from the enemy, and some people here to cause trouble from within conservatave ranks. Guess that does make three groups. When I see conservatives posting about moving to a 3rd Party that speaks volumes about their agenda!

None of these witnesses to McClintocks supposed spoiler comment have no evidence other than what they say he said.

Dan Burton called McClintock a liar as well. There are too many people who are coming up with stories that differ from Tom's. I think he's not being honest.
