Either McClintock or Schwarzenegger Likely Winner in California if Other Dropped Out
With Arnold Schwarzenegger the Republican front-runner in the California gubernatorial contest, many GOP officials have pressured California State Sen. Tom McClintock to drop out of the race, fearing he will divide the Republican vote and allow Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to win. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted over the past weekend, shows that McClintock does indeed draw support away from Schwarzenegger, though not enough to deprive the actor of the lead among probable voters. But the poll also shows that if Schwarzenegger were not in the race, McClintock would likely be in first place by a substantial margin, rather than behind Bustamante.

Sounds like both RINOneggar and McClintock will beat Bustabudget. Also, what's the difference between suffering under a liberal 'Rat administration and a liberal Pubbie administration? Either way, you get liberalism/socialism.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

McClintock will have momentum and a higher profile to be able to take on Boxer

Look, you gotta differ to those on the ground, because otherwise you are going to say things like this.-- Close friend, fellow Thousand Oaker, understudy, and rock ribbed Conservative; Tony Strickland is running against Boxer in 04.

His favorable ratings and Schwarzenegger's favorables are both very high.

Well, at least the former is true, (R)nold unfavorables are at 43% in the last Field, and that is before he takes office, and the blame...

This could play out well.

Finally some optimism! Heck yeah, lets go win Conservatives! The irony is that for once I don't share it. History disagrees.

Check this out.

But why then the hypocrisy?

Because he's a politician?

Can you explain to me how this thread got started with McClintock beating Bustamante if Arnold dropped out? The figures I read still show Bustamante ahead. What am I missing!

56% of Republicans support Arnold and they want him to drop out -- are they nuts?

This is probably the dumbest thread I have seen on here yet about the REcall!

Tom has been proved unethical in lying to Issa twice about what he planned to do regarding this race.
Then he has stayed in this way to long with low numbers and is potentially going to split the vote and favor a Democrat candidate.

Tom acts more like an unethical form of RINO than most people I've ever heard accused of that term.

He lost the right to any office in California in the future as well.

We shouldn't stand by wild loose cannons who stay on ego trips at the expense of the people and party.

Tom is an anchor to the Republican party at this point and is trying to sink the party with him.

I don't find Tom reasonable in any way now.

Even more want Tom to drop out, and they still think Tom could win if Arnold dropped out.

I guess "true conservatives" aren't known for simple math skills.

I know the online polls are less than scientific but nearly everyone I have seen shows Schwarzennegger, McClintock, Bustamante (example).

It would not surprise me if the real polls come out the same way - I mean the ones on election day.

The folllowing is the question from the poll they are hanging their hat on.... But my question is:

Why does McClintock think he's ENTITLED to the Governorship?

6. If the choice were between Cruz Bustamante, the Democrat and Tom McClintock, the Republican, who would you be more likely to vote for -- [ROTATED: Cruz Bustamante, (or) Tom McClintock]?

I don't share your pessimism. I look for better days ahead, for California, the Republican Party, both at the state and national level, and for conservatism.

But that is not a realistic poll and Gallup knows it -- Arnold's votes are not going to all go over to McClintock! Far from it!

True it's not realistic because you can't duplicate the situation as if it was only Bustamante and 'tock...... The history is there of the current situation..... If it was only those two rest assured the Indian money wouldn't be spent for 'tock and the dems would be chopping him up ten ways from sundown..... They've given him a pass up until now.

But it does show some vunerability that Bustamante has, imo.

I have to laugh when I read this analysis. The reason McClintock hasn't been driven into the ground like social conservatives Simon and Lungren before him is that Democrats have been letting him off the hook. They haven't criticized him. They've even had positive words for him. If Schwarz. were out of the race, they would bury him like they buried Lungren in 1998.

Every REAL conservative wants McClintock in office but this is California, land of the RINOS....with millions of latinos turning out next tues. we need all the votes we can get to bar Busta-lose from getting into office, it's either Arnie or our worst nightmare.

McClintock has no chance
