Okay- read this story carefully. The further along you get, the more you start to question whether any of this actually happened. My conclusion is that he'e either lying, or that he is indeed mentally distrurbed, or both.

Something very strange about this article that does not pass the smell test. He was arrested for somethign but owont say what. He seems to say he had warrants out for his arrests because his identity was stolen but the police never tried to contact him before.

I believe the facts of the story. Whether it has anything to do with institutional racism is another matter. He is not the first person to suffer like this due to identity theft. At least he didn't blame the Patriot Act!
Since I was interviewed on 60 Minutes in 2001 about the first incident, I have had more than a dozen cases of identity theft. Funds have been removed from my bank account; credit cards obtained with my Social Security number have been maxed out.

"Since I was interviewed on 60 Minutes in 2001 about the first incident, I have had more than a dozen cases of identity theft." The gentleman confuses identity theft with racial profiling. He is a victim of the former, not the latter. Under his identity, someone is committing crimes. Tough luck, but wholly random, and not race based.

Okayyy. . ., but then,
"The partner removed the wallet from my pocket and rummaged through its contents. He confiscated my driver's license, saying it was suspended."
Yup. . .this guy is lying.

My Legal Aid lawyer claimed she was also a medical professional and diagnosed me as mentally ill when I told her I teach poetry at New York University.
Astute.

Bryonn Bain, an aspiring lawyer, accomplished writer and poet, placed second in the International Poetry Slam.
Bryonn's experiences sadly reflect the current state of affairs for Black men in America. His story has been the topic of conversation for Ted Koppel, Chris Mathews, Johnnie Cochran and Oprah Winfrey. Bryonn will soon be interviewed by Mike Wallace for CBS' 60 Minutes. His is a story of a legal system gone awry. While on break at Harvard Law School, Bryonn and his friends were at a New York nightclub. Upon exiting the club after a night of dancing, Bryonn and his friends witnessed a group of kids throwing bottles at a building. Not wanting to get involved, the four friends crossed the street and continued on toward the subway and their Brooklyn homes.
The four friends were suddenly confronted by New York City Police, and quickly thrown against the car, handcuffed, and taken into custody. No explanation, no Miranda Laws given, no questioning of witnesses of the bottle-throwing incident. Only after a long night spent in jail was this promising law student released, although with no explanation, no apology, and no dignity.
After this event, Mr. Bain created The Bill of Rights for Black Men, an essay that was published by Harvard Law School and championed by Dr. Lani Guinier, a Harvard professor and civil rights attorney. A book written by Bryonn recounting these events, the lessons learned, and encouraging accounts of the people of all races that have come to the aid of Bryonn will be released this fall. Bryonn speaks of never losing sight of your goals despite the obstacles that you may face along the way, and of a future of equality of human rights.

You can beleive me that prisons and jails, guards, etc. like this description are all to common. I would be more hesitent to beleive his story if it described it as clean, humane, etc.
What I don't understand is the racism slant!

How dare you question his verasity! And if some of these are just flights of fancy, you must know that the emotional distress of those daydreams are because of people just like you. You should be empathazing with him, because after all, it's not the facts of the matter at hand, but the exaggerations based on black rage and minority esteem that matter.
You should be ashamed.

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

I wondered if anyone would believe me when they heard I had been wrongfully arrested again. I could hardly believe it myself. Since I was interviewed on 60 Minutes in 2001 about the first incident, I have had more than a dozen cases of identity theft. Funds have been removed from my bank account; credit cards obtained with my Social Security number have been maxed out. This reeks. The guy says he studied law and later refers to himself as a black lawyer, but he's the never-ending helpless victim of repeated identity theft.
Either he's making a career of selling his identity, or he's terminally stupid.

A young inmate who voiced his reluctance to do so was dragged into a back room by three guards. Every man in line heard his cries as he was beaten.Get your story right. It wa s POOR young BLACK inmate witha MUSLIM sounding name.
This guy is whining that there is some great conspiracy because his ID was stolen and someone committed felonies with it. This same story happens every day somewhere.
