An Army Islamic chaplain, who counseled al Qaeda prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, naval base, has been charged with espionage, aiding the enemy and spying, The Washington Times has learned.

Capt. James J. Yee, a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., was arrested earlier this month by the FBI in Jacksonville, Fla., as he arrived on a military charter flight from Guantanamo, according to a law-enforcement source.

If the soldier has never done anything dishonorable what would be the rationale for the dishonorable?

If the soldier has done nothing wrong then what is the rational for the discharge altogether? Should there have been a wholesale cleaning of Jewish personnel after the Jonathon Pollard arrest?

Anything is possible, I suppose. And what you describe would certainly be a possibility. But, I have to say I think it is unlikely.

More likely, in my opinion, was that the West Point Protective Association went to bat for him and assured everyone concerned that there was no way a "ring-knocker" could be a serious risk -- regardless of his new religious affiliation.

There would be none. But, I never suggested that they should be discharged, honorably or otherwise. I was commenting on something you said.

The problem is based in nomenclature. We keep referring to Islam as a religion when it is truly a cult.

Who is the best battler of cults we have ever had? Why Janet Reno, of course! GW should open a new cabinet post, "Office of Cult Affairs" and put Reno in charge. She knows how to handle this type of problem. She can retire after every Mosque in the USA is a smoking wreck filled with crispy muslims.

My question remains the same - Why are there Muslim chaplains in the US military?

...Capt. Yee was quoted as saying. "I discuss the articles of faith, what Muslims believe."

And those articles of faith for Muslims obedient to the Koran are:
1. Kill Jews and Christians wherever you find them.
2. Convert all infidels to Islam, or kill or subjugate them.
3. Await the Judgement Day when Christ will return as a Muslim and kill
any remaining Christians.

I'll give it to Capt. Yee, Hamas, Hezbollah, Al-Quida and the rest...
they ARE the real Muslims and they follow their faith.

Over the years, I've had many conversations with Christians who believe that "once saved, always saved". Any comments on this guys status?

This sounds like a plot of many years making. He may have been engaging in espionage long before Guantanamo.

Muslims/Islamics are more dangerous than Communists, Nazis, etc.
A fair number of them will actually die for their evil ideals.

I think there are some practical steps the government can take, based on this and previous arrests:

1. Prevent non-citizen Muslims from enlisting in the military in any capacity. (This doesn't apply in Yee's case, but it does apply in other cases.)

2. Prevent Muslim prison chaplains from distributing anti-American or extremist literature and expel those caught doing so.

3. Bar Muslims who have received Islamic training in countries that support terrorism, or in Madrassahs or mosques funded by Wahabbists, from government service in any capacity.

4. Discharge any Muslim in military service who refuses to fight in a Muslim country, or who expresses sympathy for Islamic jihadists.

Considering the strength of the Wahabbi lobby, and their enablers in Federal and State governments, I doubt that any of these would even be considered, until perhaps we have another devastating attack, and then it may be too late.

....something like 22% of the American public will tell you that Islam is not a peaceful religion. I find this very troubling.

Peace-loving Muslims should find this development troubling too. They have a serious credibility problem, which IMO stems from the fact that they have NOT convincingly condemned the actions of their radical brethren and they have NOT visibly aided in their capture and 'disposition'.

I guess I'm just hoping that our military is actually smart about things and not PC. No telling.

Aye, these are all constructive suggestions and ones that could be implemented readily. I would ammend the last one to include anybody in the military that refused to fight in a Muslim country or otherwise. Not much point in being in the military if you're just going to be a bench warmer.

"Capt. Yee, 35, was a command chaplain for I Corps at Fort Lewis, Wash. "

Didn't the lovely state of Washington give us another militant muslim in the military-- John Muhammad. When will we learn that muslims should probably not serve in the army?

"The Army dispatched him to Cuba to attend to the spiritual needs of a growing number of captured al Qaeda and members of the Taliban, a hard-line Islamic group ousted from power in Afghanistan."

F them and their "spiritual needs". The American people have safety needs, and institutional political correctness should be stopped immediately. We are at War for crying out loud.

"Capt. Yee, of Chinese-American descent, was raised in New Jersey as a Christian. He studied Islam at West Point and converted to Islam and left the Army in the mid-1990s."

NJ and Chinese-American? I just think it's great that we spent $250, 000 to turn this traitor yee into a militant Wahabbi cleric-- excellent!

"He moved to Syria, where he underwent further religious training in traditional Islamic beliefs." What no trip to Yemen? This reads like John Walker Lindh stuff-- JWL should be dead right now, not having sex with butch jihadists in jail-- something that we know he enjoys immensely!

The fact that the army let Yee do this is astounding. It also makes Gitmo look like little more than a high insecurity, American-funded madrassah.

"He returned to the United States and re-entered the Army as an Islamic chaplain. He is said to be married to a Syrian woman."

Sounds like a great candidate for the Army of None. Go Army, when will we start recruting Al Qaeda directly?

This is one of those stories that makes me believe that we don't understand the War we're fighting.

All in all, a ludicrous and maddening story. But what could I expect from an Army that gave Wesley "Ashley Wilkes" Clark four stars?

What a crying shame!

If they can turn a West Point graduate into a traitor, they are too dangerous to be allowed to remain in our nation's armed forces.

If they can turn a West Point graduate into a traitor, they are too dangerous to be allowed to remain in our nation, period.

They must be treated like Jim Jones coolaid drinkers.

People put forward all kinds of frivolous Constitutional Ammendments, but I want one declaring Islam to not be a religion as that term is used in the First Ammendment.

Then we can do what is necessary.

Then we can do what is necessary.

Then we can prosecute any and all Muslims under the RICO statutes as members of a criminal enterprise and sentance them to life in prison, or death.
