VC funds = Venture capital funds, meaning the Israeli's are 2nd only to the American's in having risk funding available to world wide community of borrowers. This is especially important when one has such wealth, and may use the strength of that financial prowess, and inclined to exercise influence in other areas of a recipient country economy, culture, and politics.

"VC" stands for Venture Capital.

Money men that fund start-up companies.

Israel must have a hard time attracting IT workers, given the volatility of the area. Other than the risk of getting bombed, does anyone know if it's a good place to work?

To tell you the truth, if I had my way, we would leave ALL religion out of it.

And the sect of Israelis who populate settlements but refuse to serve in the military REALLY irritate me. A case could be made that they lead to a lot of problems due to their actions and beliefs but refuse to fight to back-up those actions and beliefs.

And, I don't care if they don't allow "The Gospel of Jesus Christ" anymore than I care if they don't allow "The Gospel of Mohammad".

But to abandon them is simple foolishness. They are a wonderful ally in a part of the world where we don't have any.

There you go again. Stop hinting around about it. Put it in plain English so we all understand what you are implying here.

For one thing, your figures are from 1997.

Figures, Facts, and Impact Summary Benefits to Israel of U.S. Aid Since 1949 (As of November 1, 1997)

Secondly, the "impact" section is editorializing, and has nothing to do with the facts.

I don't know about that, but I think Israel might be Palestine if not for America's backing all these years.

Well, you have me there.. I wonder if anything in this area of our US spending has declinded since 97. My guess is, and this is just a guess, that our funding has actually increased in AID to the Israeli government.. just a guess mind you..

You forgot another top ranking for Israel.

Largest number of nuclear weapons per capita.

I'm with you carlo3b.

It is pure insanity for the U.S. taxpayer to provide $85 billion dollars a year to a country that (as veronica so completely demonstrated) is the most dynamic economic power house in the world.

But wait just a minute. Look at these two facts.

veronica: "Israel's $100 billion economy ...."

carlo3b: "Grand Total (US Financial Aid to Israel) $84,854,827,200..."

So. Does this mean that if the US stopped funding Israel, that Israel impressive economy would drop down to $15 billion??? ($100 billion - $85 billion)

Maybe Israel isn't really that efficient. Maybe the US is just that gullible.

The $85 billion refers to all US aid including loans from 1949 to 1997, the $100 billion is the size of Israel's economy in one year.

What discipline is your Ph.D. in?

>Israel is roughly the size of Massachusetts

In fact, Israel
is something like a thousand
square miles smaller than

New Hampshire. Here are
some interesting totals
of land areas:

Israel: 8,019 sq mi

Massachusetts 10,554.57 sq mi
New Hampshire 9,349.94 sq mi
Vermont 9,614.26 sq mi

Jordan 35,637 sq mi
Syria 71,498 sq mi
Egypt 386,660 sq mi

Have you noticed that
when the TV scum show "maps"
of the Middle East,

they always manage
to cut and crop and edit
so that Israel

is portrayed -- appears! --
as if it's the biggest state
in the whole region!
