"Road to Kaintuck," "Stampede," Mr. Garfield" or "Streets of Laredo"
Those are ones that I remember from when I was a kid.

I don't think I can get the songs you mentioned, but I found this one:

RE the posting:
Really only one true great left now from the old days who still has that legacy thing.....Ralph Stanley. And happygirl's reply:
Bill Monroe's gone, and now Johnny Cash.
They were (are) all the genuine article.
The world they represented is now, sadly, replaced by ersatz and gloss. They sang and lived both Saturday Night and Sunday Morning
There's one other true American original you haven't mentioned, who's still alive and still performing:
Doc Watson.
If anyone here has the opportunity to see him, do so before it's too late. Although Doc never achieved the level of popularity as did performers like Johnny Cash, he can stand side-by-side with them with no loss of musical stature, and they would regard the Doc as their equal....
Cheers!
- John

LOL. I've never heard that song before. It seems you've got a treasure chest of tunes at your fingertips.

Road to Kaintuckby Johnny Cash We're goin' west to Kaintuck, down the road to Moccasin Gap.
Down the wilderness road . . .
The Dug Road, the old Reedy Creek Road,
The Road down Troublesome, Road through Moccasin Gap.
There was a time when goin' way out west meant goin' to Kaintuck,
The "dark and bloody ground" as the Indians called it.
Indians wars were ragin' and men like Daniel Boone and Michael Stoner
Came down the wilderness road like countless families did,
Through a place in southwest Virginia called Big Moccasin Gap.
It's a hot day in '73 and this is my wife and my kids with me.
Daniel Boone lost his boy the other day . . . young Jim Boone is dead, twenty miles away.
The wagons turn and went back home -- even Daniel couldn't make it alone.
I guess prob'ly Daniel could, but he stopped awhile in Castle Wood.
(If you love your wife and love your baby, man . . .
Turn your wagons back as soon as you can!
Ev'ry Injun in these hills has gone berserk.
You're never gonna make it to Kaintuck!)
Oh, I bet I'm gonna make it to Kaintuck!
We're goin' west to Kaintuck, down the road to Moccasin Gap.
Down the wilderness road . . .
The Dug Road, the old Reedy Creek Road,
The Road down Troublesome, Road through Moccasin Gap.

ROFLOL!!!!
(If you can find a song called "25 Minutes to Go," I think you'll love it. Same theme . . . different ending!)

"Hurt" is such a great video It is a magnificent finale to the career of a great artist.
I wish that when people think of Arkansas, they would associate my state with Johnny Cash and Gen. Douglas McArthur (and not Bill Clinton).

His voice was awful, but his songs have a certain appeal, don't they?
The background female vocals on that song are the same as the ones on "Road to Kaintuck" -- at least someone in that group could sing. LOL.

Just damn. Now I know what all the fuss about "Hurt" was about. The look on June's face in that video was heartbreaking...it seemed to say, "Johnny, why are you doing this to yourself?"
Wow.

Daddy always liked Jimmy Rodgers and Roy Acuff as well as Hank.
I also thought Jimmy Rodgers was one of the greats, and they didn't call Roy Acuff the king of country music for nothing. I also would rate them all as better than Johnny Cash, but don't think for that reason that I don't like Cash. He was really great.
