In a long and very interesting poll pubished today by the California Chamber of Commerce, (which has endorsed Arnold, and bits have been excerpted to the media) Uberroth backers were asked who they would support if he withdrew.

This is what they said: Schwarzenegger 34%, McClintock 21%, Bustamante 23%.

In fact, that's a great idea for a campaign slogan: "Vote for me. Vote for the electable 1% Republican."

What is so "confusing" about 133 names on the ballot? Or even 1000 names? Just vote for the one you are in favor of...

Just finding the name you want could be a chore.

We may want to set up a central place to indicate where the candidates are listed on the ballot in each district. I'm not sure that absentee ballots are arranged like the real ballot is but they may be a source for the information.

* Federal Reimbursement. On January 7, 1994 Governor Wilson
announced that he would work with bipartisan leadership of the state
Legislature to seek reimbursement for $2.3 billion in costs the state is
mandated to spend by the federal government on services to illegal
immigrants. The Governor also announced that he had secured the
cooperation of Governors from Texas, New York, Illinois, New Jersey,
Arizona, and Florida in a coordinated effort to get action in Washington.

* Constitutional Amendment. Governor Wilson has proposed a
constitutional amendment to grant citizenship only to those children who
are born to legal residents of the United States -- not to those born to
people who are illegally in the country. This policy would match that of
nearly every Western nation.

* Repealing Federal Mandates. Governor Wilson has proposed
congressional action to remove the rewards for illegal immigration by
repealing federal mandates that make illegal immigrants eligible for
health care, education, and other benefits.

"Sanctuary Laws." Governor Wilson signed legislation prohibiting
"sanctuary laws," which forbid local law enforcement officials from
reporting to the Immigration and Naturalization Service illegal felons
who police believe are illegal aliens.

* Drivers Licenses. Governor Wilson signed legislation requiring
first-time applicants for a driver's license or personal ID card from the
Department of Motor Vehicles to produce evidence of citizenship or legal
residency status.

I am surprised you consider wilson a,well, a republican. He was pro abort, raised taxes etc etc, a true rino, and even advises arnold currently.

If McClintock wanted to be fair, he would run as an independent.

I don't care about the percentage. I care about the following:

Arnold Schwarzenegger:

Anti-2nd Amendment (this issue alone is worth voting against him)
Pro-Abortion/"Choice"
Pro-Gay Adoption + other special rights
Anti-Prop 54 (supports racial biased government)
Pro-Amnesty for illegal immigration

I can keep going, but there's no point. These are DAMNING positions. I will not vote for someone who dares to hold these views yet still call himself a Republican.

You people have short memories. You act as if CA hasn't had a Republican governor in over 40 years. Try 5 years.

Let me get this right: YOU are asserting that PETE WILSON -- the same one whose prominent role in Arnold's campaign has been the basis for so much Arnold-ain't-no-conservative, Arnold-is-a-RINO bashing on this forum -- is a CONSERVATIVE? (You technically said "Republican," but you offered Wilson in response to a post stating that conservatives (not "Republicans") hadn't been successful in CA for a long time.)

"Even" I disagree with that characterization. Wilson was a wet like Bush 41, Ford, et al.

Wilson for all his warts, had a set of brass balls, and wasn't afraid to support 187 with gusto. Best of all, he vetoed the CA State Bar nearly out of existence for a year, until Davis took over.
