Leave it to _BATF to try and squelch the terrorism theory. Being as the gov't seems to be most interested in downplaying terror angles at all turns, I could have almost predicted his response.

Actually, it was a movie named Deadlock, although it looks like it is now called Wedlock...Yeah. And just like real-life wedlock, when the parties are seperated, everything blows up and things get ugly as hell.

Occam's razor is just about the most overused debate tool available. Lyndon LaRouche loved to use it. I remember him using it to prove that Queen Elizabeth was a drug dealer in 1986.

Who the eff's gonna rig the thing to really explode if they are robbing a bank???ALL part of the bluff, Malloy.
WHY wasn't this guy working on a DESCRIPTION for the police while he waited for the bomb squad if he was actually kidnapped for this robbery ... things went *slightly* awry after the robbery when he was actually caught - something a man with a mind in a rational state would have thought about, but, this guy *wasn't* rational (the 'bad guys' often aren't).
That's probably *your* biggest error in appraising this situation ...

The first movie I recall with this theme was "Wedlock (1991)" with Rutger Hauer and Mimi Rodgers. The Wedlock collars required the pair to remain within a specified distance. The version used in "Running Man" used a proximity detector in the collar to prevent leaving a wired perimeter.

to try and squelch the terrorism theoryIn case you haven't noticed (in your 'haste' to arrive at a solution to this event) no one has a) claimed responsibility for the 'event' and b) NOR has there been a spate of such incidents.

I don't think he was really ever robbing the bank. He was getting media attention and into the news cycle for terrorism purposes. Look for the next one to be forced to board a crowded bus like in Israel. The bank was just an announcement. My latest tin foil scenario involves these "flash mobs" I've been reading about.
The mobs that get an email or page, then quickly assemble at a certain point, do something wacky and then break up and go about their business.
Everybody participating sees it as an "innocent, fun" type of thing.
But I think these kind of "mobs" could be maniuplated by terrorists to have a ready made target or as a distraction.

It's rather telling that you have.

WHY wasn't this guy working on a DESCRIPTION for the police while he waited for the bomb squad if he was actually kidnapped for this robbery ... Where do any of the reports say that he didn't provide a description? The press will hold details if asked by the investigators to do so. The details of the bomb were held for several days.
The police seemed to have gotten away from this man when they realized there was likely a live bomb attached to his neck. CYA- Cover Your Ass. CYA part 2 is to make the paperwork show that you did nothing wrong (let the papertrail end with this patsy).

I find in interesting that this story took several days to enter the national press cycle yet gun incidents get added to the headlines in a matter of hours.

Wonder what cons are allowed to make in a "Prison" shop besides license plates.

Jim, the guy wasn't military trained for high stress situations. He had a friggin bomb, which he knew was armed, around his neck. Wasn't that his only immediate concern? Have a heart.

Jim, you have gotta be an academic. Good stuff. Nice to see your posts. But Jim, this involved machine shop skills, tool steel, cutting bits, a bridgeport mill, welding equipment, and many other skills and devices that are not common on the list of professional skills of pizza delivery guys. If they were, he wouldn't be delivering pizza's for a way to pay the bills.
But those skills and trades are not something you learn about in academia.

What does the phrase "working to arrive at" indicate to you - that you a) have arrived at a solution or b) are
working toward a solution?
I thought I was quite clear, but, maybe not for you ...

It is amazing that anyone would have come to the conclusion that this was done by the pizza guy.
About the only conclusion I can come to thus far is that it almost certainly was not done by the pizza guy. At least not by himself. That item looks like it took significant time, effort and money to design and implement.
This story is so completely bizarre...

WHY wasn't this guy working on a DESCRIPTION for the police while he waited for the bomb squad if he was actually kidnapped for this robberySimple. The police were only willing to get within shouting distance. All the guy could do is shout such things as "Why isn't anybody coming to get this off me?"
Speaking of that comment, that doesn't sound much like a suicidal person speaking.
So far nothing's adding up.

DO a search on 'leg cuffs' or 'collar cuffs' using Google; there; there is a growing market for all kinds of 'things' of this nature ...
