Geoghan killed in prison (Boston Herald)
Breaking news/by Eric Convey
Saturday, August 23, 2003

Former priest John Geoghan, a notorious pedophile whose case sparked the clergy molestation scandal of the past 18 months, died this afternoon after being attacked at the state prison in Shirley.

``The perpetrator has been isolated,'' said Kelly Nantell, a spokeswoman for the state Deparment of Corrections.

``Our investigation continues,'' she said.

The matter has been referred to the Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley's office.

Geoghan was serving a nine-to-10 year sentence at MCI Shirley for allegedly groping a boy at a Waltham swimming pool.

More than 140 people have claimed they were abused by Geoghan, claiming they were fondled or raped at locations ranging from church rectories to their own homes.

Geoghan would become one the most notorious pedophiles in the country - not only for the extent of his rampage against children but because relevations about his case led to the unraveling of secrecy within the Archdiocese of Boston.

Bernard Cardinal Law's cordial letters to Geoghan, mixing discipline with praise for his priestly service, that pushed many victims from disbelief to outrage.

I know a family whose 14 year old daughter went out to ride her bike and was found brutally murdered ---- that child murderer served his 20 years and has been released --- he's free to rape, slash, and all the rest that he did to the first victim ---- there is no justice in a system that allows those who brutalize helpless children to be released some day. The state would most likely have let this man go, as did the Church. I think real justice has finally been served --- now God can judge him.

"He might have made the mistake of forgetting where he was and tried to pull something like he did on innocent helpless children."

Shame on you for suggesting such an obvious possibility.

There's also the possibility of a real revenge killing AND the possibility of a guilt transferrence killing (the reason victims of pedaeophilia hate pedaeophiles)

Yes. I'm just saying that it's not something to be celebrated.

No one is going to shed a tear for this guy. If he were sentenced to death, so be it. But that's not what happened. And lawlessness should not be celebrated, IMO.

"Better to have long sentences at hard labor in law-respecting prisons."

Ha ha ha! Unfortunately, the courts have made sure that there is no such thing as hard labor. It's called cruel and unusual punishment.

Another molesting pervert bites the dust and taxpayers are spared the cost of supporting his sorry ass while he wastes away in prison.

Good riddance.

Hope he enjoys his stay in Hell.

Judge not, less you be judged.

People like Geoghan and Dahmer will receive justice at the hands of their fellow prisoners. A gangbanger sentenced to life for a drive by shooting of his rivals, will feel revulsion towards those who prey on innocents. People who prey on children are toast in the prison system. Even violent criminals have standards, I guess.

God entrusts his children to his designated representatives. When they screw up, there will be hell to pay...

Actually it does. You suggested that people should pay to watch prisoners be killed. I said it should be free.

I then expanded upon my belief that justice being meted out should be visible.

In the Maricopa County Arizona, Marijuana Posession is a felony. Posession of ANY AMOUNT.

Should marijuana smokers be executed, you Taliban-reject?

Judge not, less you be judged.

Then we can't judge those prisoners who killed him. We don't even know what he did to provoke them.

In an age where wackos try to elevate date rape with both parties drunk, into being the same as real and violent rape, I cry no tears for this execution of a ghoul who raped scores of little boys and traumatized them. I don't give a crap how he got killed as long as he's gone.

These days justice is where you find it. A convict did what the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is too degenerate to do.

That's the unfortunate result of "felony-creep" in our modern penal system.

Time was, felonies were few (murder, rape, etc) and all were capital crimes, combined with a complete loss of all property.

Those were the days- few felonies, but extremely severe punishment for those.
