Who said anything about throwing God out. Will you stop believing in God because the government doesn't allow religious icons on government property.

It's nice that you have such a stronge belief in your religion. I do not believe that an almighty God exist. I am offened by people trying to make this a Christian country. Religions have been the cause of more deaths and wars then any other cause in history. There is no need for it in government, and if all the people in the world would just live and respect others opinions and not try to shove their religion down someone elses throut it would be a peaceful world. Religion does not neccessarily give someone good morals, respect for others and doing the right things for the sake of being civil and human do.

Gee - thanks for the historical background. I have heard some of the differences mentioned on TV on the Hannity & Colmes show but don't recall.

One of the guests (just can't recall his name) was very well versed in the Muslim religion and their god.

He got in a little trouble by revealing the truth about the Muslim religion and what it was founded on - Mohammed's background, etc.

Which authors are you talking about? I've asked you that question, and you refer back to the same posts. And YOU brought up Blaine.

In case you didn't notice, YOUR post was about the Blaine Amendment? What I am asking you for is the one you claim Bingham and Howard wrote. Or are you saying that someone else wrote it? If so, who or when?

Of course, you only bring that up because you can't dispute that the ACTUAL authors of the 14th explicitly said incorporation would be its effect, and no one contested that.

Still waiting for your scholarly comment on the effects of the privileges and immunities clause, as well.

I'm sure I'll wait for a long time.

Supreme Court of Indiana, 1974:

"Virtually all criminal laws are in one way or another the progeny of Judeo-Christian ethics. We have no intention to overrule the Ten Commandments."

Sorry it was proably Mineral Man he is frustrating me, I have to have patience when talking to an atheist.. sorry

It's OK. I find myself acting in the worst manner when talking to atheists as well, sometimes it's hard not to.

By the way, since when do the children of God have to answer to satans minions anyway? I believe we are not to throw our pearls before swine. . .

I just smiled at him.

Religion and Politics. Two subjects that even the best of friends can find difficult to talk about.
The stranger who swore at you and called you a traitor obviously had some emotional issues. (I suspect he probably felt bad afterwards, we all act in ways that are not becoming sometimes, especially about God and country).

Unless you left out the two words in an obvious manner, to attract attention to your non-belief, or to deliberately cause hurt to someone else, you were wronged in the worst way. It still seems you handled it in a proper manner - I'm not sure I could have done the same in your position.

check the alabama state constituation - it goes beyond establishment - moron

I did not call you, personally, a moron so the personal attack was not necessary. Furthermore, without reading the Alabama Constitution, I can tell you right noe it is being mis-interpreted by those who wish to take God out of our culture - namely socialists-atheists.

Please post the constitution you refer to if you are going to use it for personal attacks.

The Christian ROSA PARKS!

We need to help this man out on a national level - any ideas?

You don't have the freedom to use the state as a hammer to smack people with your beliefs.

I hate to jump in here but cant help it.

Christains are being forced to accept things THEY dont believe, among them homosexuality and abortion. But we want to have the Ten Commandments posted in rememberance of how our laws were founded, and everyone throws a titty-baby fit!

The ACLU condones the Murder of Children, The Decay of Society thru Homo marriage, Illegal Aliens and the resulting terrorism, YET THEY FEEAR CHRISTIAN DISPLAYS!

The ACLU and all those who would remove God are hell-bound.

Im sorry you took my comment so much to heart that you felt this need to pick mine out of all the comments that were made in response to this.

I'm not.

It was simple and to the point. It was good. It was one that provoked the question; Why?

The fact that you either don't really know why or decline to say why is odd. But hey, it's an odd site sometimes. People come here to read these articles and posts and comment on them. Most don't think they are being picked on when asked a sinple question about their post.

I'm not picking on you. Maybe someone else who thinks it was a pity will respond as to why they think so. I can't figure it out logically. It seems pretty clear to me that it's not a pity but a big part of the forum seems to think it is, so I just want to know,,,,,Why?

Who can keep track of how many times the U.S. Supreme Court has reversed itself? All courts are composed of fallible men who are no more honest than you and I.

Had it been up to the Supreme Court, slavery would have never ended. In 1857, the Court declared it unconstitutional for the legislative or executive branches to end slavery or to free slaves.

Hopefully, there won't be another civil war to end the Court's bad decisions, but we really should seriously consider changing their lifetime tenure. Why should any judge be appointed for life? Being answerable to no one just guarantees they will grow arrogant and corrupt.

"There would still have to be an official organization, otherwise anybody could just up and call himself an imam."

Yep. That would be the case. Though not everyone would have to agree, or listen to him. It is more of a bottom-up thing than a top-down thing.

Then it sounds like what you're describing is freedom of religion. In what way is it "established"?

What would be required for them to be "religions?" What kind of "organization" do they need?

As I said earlier, I would think they'd need to be organized enough to be an organ of the state, but you have my curiosity going with what you said about Islamic countries, so I'll be curious in hearing further elaboration on that.
