Huh...funny that, eh? Lightning out of a clear blue sky, huh?
Yeah. I feel like I'm in 1984. Big Brother is watching me, and I dare speak the truth that 2 + 2 = 4. No, I must sit here and recite "2 + 2 = 5" over and over until I believe...

Does anyone else think that Bloomberg is a total flake?Yep.

Does that happen? I would think the cars would keep going until they made it to a flat area Yes it does. I probably have seen a half dozen media reports through the last 20 years where roller coaster cars get stuck at the top of the loop.
But of course the media will portray that happening as a major disaster and a call to ban roller coasters.

Yes, they are well grounded, but a lightening strike can take a generating station off line in a hurry. I've seen it happen.

Lightning? Are you kidding? Have you seen the weather map from weather.com - The Weather Channel's site?
It's completely clear in the northeast and has been all day. There have been no storms, which implies no possibility of lightning.
But you didn't hear it from me.
To: Peach
There are no storms anywhere in the NE.

"Just said that the Canadian Prime Ministers office says it was a lightning strike at a power plant in Niagra that caused it! "
Oooooookay, ti-Jean! Yeah right....
You know, it wasn't that hot today, we've all suffered through worse heat waves.
And if it was a fire, it must have been some quick, devastating fire that managed to defeat all the backups, etc. and disrupt power in major cities throughout the Northeast, Canada, into the midwest.
Either that or all the workers were on their coffee breaks and couldn't break out the fire extinguisher.
Either that or Hillary had extended her listening tour and was visiting that generator and looking at it when it spontaneously combusted.
I think it was terrorism, but we'll never know or be told for sure. It will be a fire and a "computer glitch". I mean, the computer worm? Come on...

Dan, this is just to bizarre. I wonder if Oakland County got hit? It appears I got out just in time!
We're keeping all the lights off and are laying off unnecessary water usage. Hopefully it helps.

It looks like Carville writes Drudge's headlines.

You don't even need to ask that question, you know the answer.
To: Peach
FWIW, CNN just reported no fire at the ConEd station.

Canadian gov. saying it was lightning in U. S. (Niagara) that caused the power outage Yep and good "friend" of the US(actually the Clinton's), Chretein beleives that lightning can strike twice, especially on a cloudless day in the eastern part of the US and canada.

Now saying on PMSNBC that 20,000 people are waiting for ferries...and we've heard from Homeland Security that our swarthy enemies were checking out ferries and we were warned about attacks on ferries. Dammmit Dude!!! I'm supposed to be the paranoid on this thread!!! Knock "it" off!!!
