We didn't hear that? Lightning caused this???
To: Joe Hadenuf
Just said that the Canadian Prime Ministers office says it was a lightning strike at a power plant in Niagra that caused it!

Wasn't there a major push to move towards digital handsets? Do those depend on repeaters to relay the signal? If so then they probably aren't working.

Gov. Pataki just said about half the folks in NYS are without power. He's not making any predictions about how long restoring it is going to take.

Bloomberg. Idiot. I know what you meant and have no argument with that assessment.

MSNBC announced Michigan may declare a State of Emergency. Detroit having trouble getting gas pumped, traffic not as bad as NY area.

CBC just said that there was an unconfirmed report that lightning may have struck a power plant near Niagra Falls.

Six flags in Ohio is in between Cleveland and Akron so they would be without power also Not exactly. Six Flags Ohio, formerly known as Geagua Lake is a bit east from the I-77 corridor connceting Akron to Cleveland.
From Clevland and going south it is basically a straight line following I-77 to Akron and Canton.

It is, indeed an unpleasant thought, but not a needed one. And there's a good reason why you didn't think of it. There's no reason to!Dear God. I hope you're right. I fear you're not.
Creatin says lightning at Canada Niagra caused outage.

Loma Prieta was in 89....I remeber it well!
To: Joe Hadenuf
PMSNBC just reported it. Says they are being told by the Canadian Prime Minister's office that "a lightning strike at a Niagra power plant caused the chain reaction outage".

Largest-Ever Blackout Hits Eastern U.S.
By CALVIN WOODWARD
Associated Press Writer
The biggest power blackout in history hit steamy U.S. and Canadian cities Thursday, stranding people in subways, closing nuclear power plants in Ohio and New York state and choking streets with workers driven from stifling offices.
http://www.fredericksburg.com/News/apmethods/apstory?urlfeed=D7SU17HG0.xml But of course, there is nothing unusual, nothing at all.
And while I was posting it, ABC said that Canada's prime minister said that lightening caused the outage.
In the meantime, unrelated, of course ;) NORAD sent up unscheduled airplanes.
All this from ABC.

I would be most concerned for those who are stuck in the middle of an upside down loop roller coaster. Does that happen? I would think the cars would keep going until they made it to a flat area.
