Bloomberg came on T.V., held a press conference, and said "100% certain not terrorism related".
Is he a member of the news media?

Sorry to crash in after 14 gahzillion posts, but if this deal isn't terrorism, why not call out the National Guard as a precautionary measure for what MAY result from the conditions arising from this mess?

Just talked to my uncle - he's in lower Manhattan and just tried to get to the Staten Island Ferry. It's not gonna happen. He's going to get some dinner, then back to the office for the night.
To: Lynne
Not necessarily BS. Early on the TV (I don't remember which channel), showed the Manhattan power plant by the river, and they were talking about "explosions" and fire, and showed the stacks. Then the camera panned to New Jersey where there was a fire with white smoke coming out of the building. I haven't heard any more about that.Read the rest of this thread and you will, in complete detail. The "explosions" and "fire" were power plants in Manhattan undergoing STANDARD EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURES.

Ted Striker: The place was filled with every cutthroat and low-life from Bombay to Calcutta. It was worse than being in Detroit.

Lots of people said it's absolutely, positively not terrorism. Here is one example:
"A senior U.S. law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the FBI had determined the blackout was a "natural occurrence" and there was no evidence of terrorism, and that the Homeland Security Department agreed. "
http://www.canada.com/news/world/story.asp?id=09E00409-BC1C-42E9-AFCE-5B68A26BC04A ---
And the few of us, who mentioned that it's too early to fully dismiss terrorism, got flamed and called fear mongers and worse.

Whats strange is it seems millions are just standing around now.....I guess they just can't walk out huh?

I have a question.
Could someone sitting somewhere using a computer crash the electric grid? Make it look like the system became overloaded.

We have a closed nuclear plant here in my area of Alabama which the liberals decided was not needed years ago. Maybe they will allow us to complete it so we can send them som power.
To: Dog
From everything I have read, no, that's not possible.
To: BohDaThone
Now, if anyone has some real info, like explosions, planes flying into things, etc., let us know. Otherwise, let the workers try to pinpoint the problem, work around it even if they can't, and get the system up and running. They are trying to fill air time and scare the hell out of people at the same time

VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY:
U.S. Energy Association Efficiency Forum Washington, D.C. June 13, 2001
"The report we issued last month presented more than 100 recommendations covering virtually the entire range of concerns that face the American people. One of the concerns, obviously, is the aging power grid and the growing problem that we have in getting electricity from the power plant to the light switch. It's clear that we must upgrade and expand the power grid. If we put more connections in place, we'll go a long way towards avoiding future blackouts. Another broad aim is to increase energy supplies from diverse sources; from oil and gas, renewables, coal, hydro and nuclear. This is the kind of balanced approach we think is essential if we're going to meet the country's energy needs down the road and take care of many of our other concerns, especially with respect to the environment."
