*cough* A lot of freepers actually seem to agree with that, though... the quotes pushing the protocols of the elders of zion are truly jaw-dropping.

Sir, I'm afraid you have me mixed up with someone else. I am not, nor have I ever been, a YECer. Indeed, the closest one might come to my views would be theistic evolution, though I have been told they may be closer to Deism in some regards.
I've been a combatant on the crevo threads since 1998 and have always taken the evo side of the issue.

Well, considering a "parsec" (3.26 light years) is a contraction of "parallax second," or a shift of one second of arc in the sky over, IIRC, a six-month period, I'm pretty sure you'd need some really precise instruments to measure anything a great distance away. However, I don't believe that astronomers rely simply on trigonometry to determine distance. RadioAstronomer might be more likely to shed light on the tools used.

Remember SN1987a gave us a very accurate measurement of the distance to the Large Magellanic Cloud. :-)

There's no doubt that individuals face risk when being immunized. There are all kinds of situations in which the government imposes requirements on parents regarding the medical care of their children. These are reasonable political and ethical issues and should be debated.
As for Satan being behind immunization, well tell that to some of my aunts and uncles who lost brothers and sisters to "childhood" diseases.

I knew all that of course -- the concept, but not the numbers. I was just questioning the invocation of trigonometry to disprove YEC. Fortunate there are now multiple independent measurements.

...But beating a Cold, Rational, Scientific Person over the head with the literal interpritation of Flood and Pre-Flood Creation will place a unneeded barrier between them and Jesus Christ. Jesus claimed to be the truth. The truth including creation, which is the foundation of our salvation is more important than any or all persons who may be turned off by it. If the bible is fictional in any respect, then it has a false representation of itself and is a damnable lie, let it burn because of the billions of faithful people who have believed it and lived and died for it. Believe it or burn it but don't use it as a door stop for the church so that non-believers can feel welcome.

Sorry--of course, you're right that we shouldn't blindly accept everything that comes out, especially if it's from the government...

How awful & sobering. Where do these people think that smallpox measles mumps etc. went?

I much rather go along THESE lines........
John 7:50-51
50. Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked,
51. "Does our law* condemn anyone without first hearing him to find out what he is doing?"
Romans 2:14-15
14. (Indeed, when Gentiles Elsie, who do(es) not have the law*, do by nature things required by the law*, they are a law* for themselves, even though they do not have the law*,
15. since they show that the requirements of the law* are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)
*AGREEMENT OF THE WILLING
(BTW, I think there are GOOD guys on BOTH sides of this disagreement...)

I may be thick...which of the five sides of this arguement are you on? Probably ALL of them, at one time or the other.......
I used a lowercase 'c' on purpose. Most 'outsiders' see the SYSTEM loonngg before they see the Christ.
And, I know of no other way to add a bit of OOMPH to emphasize what I wish I were SAYING instead of TYPING other than caps. Well... there IS those idiotic emoticons: BARF!!

Indeed!!
It seems to me that
there are MANY folks that call themselves 'Christian' and do NOT believe in Evolution, actually PRACTICE letting 'nature' take it's course [get sick and die]
and
there there are MANY folks that call themselves 'Evolutionists' but do not PRACTICE their 'belief' by letting 'nature' take it's course [survival of the fittest] -- they go to doctor for 'cure'!

I notice their is no reference to the article being published, or accepted for publication, by any recognized refereed scientific journal.
Without that, it is no more reliably truthful than The Onion.

We Christians just don't want THIS to happen to folks.................
Romans 1:20-25
20. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
23. and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
25. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.
