Gay Episcopalian bishop predicts other churches will welcome gays

The US Episcopal church's first openly gay bishop predicted that other churches would soon follow his denomination's example in welcoming gays into their leadership.

"I suspect that before too very long, other denominations will also follow and welcome openly gay and lesbian people into leadership positions. That's my prayer," Gene Robinson told ABC television on Wednesday.

A majority of the church's House of Bishops on Tuesday voted 62 to 45 to ratify Robinson's appointment as bishop of New Hampshire, church officials said, ending three days of contentious debate.

Conservatives within church ranks, many of whom have fiercely opposed Robinson's election on the grounds it violates Biblical teachings, were quick to express their disapproval, and a group of 24 bishops threatened to resign if he were elected.

"Well, anytime anyone decides to leave the church, it's a very sad thing. And I certainly have been praying and will be praying every day that such a thing does not happen," Robinson said. "Indeed, I don't think it needs to happen."

"The Episcopal Church in this country, and the Anglican community worldwide, the great gift we bring to the world is we are able to maintain a wide diversity of opinions on various issues while holding our faith in Jesus Christ as central and the thing that binds us together as the body of Christ. So I think there's no reason for us to come apart," Robinson said.

The Episcopal Church, the US branch of the Anglican Church, has more than 2.1 million followers, making it the 10th-largest Protestant church in the United States.

That's terrible -- beginning to wonder if it is the Church's here in Oklahoma and Texas that are by and large a lot more conservative than their national bodies.

Organized religion is dead if it openly welcomes the gays... into leadership positions. Homosexuality is a sin no worse than stealing or murder or adultry in God's eyes. It is hoped that if a homosexual comes to a church that recognizes that it is a sin, then they (homos) will turn from sin.

originally caused division in the church by introducing this error of free will.

Sorry Matchett-PI, but you're the one in error. Funny thing is, you exercise your free will to stay in that error.

That makes sense as the Presbyterian Church my daughter attended with a friend of hers is made up of members who broke away from the main church here in town. Now I am curious -- going to look at their denomination when my Friday paper comes out about Church's here in Norman.

Exactly. The problem is not that he is divorced and homosexual, the problem is he is non-celibate and involved in an adulterous relationship.

In answer to your #10 (too hard to reformat correctly):

" Romans 1 1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God-- 2the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, 4and who through the Spirit[1] of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God[2] by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. 6And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. 7To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul's Longing to Visit Rome 8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 9God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you. 11I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong-- 12that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. 13I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles. 14I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome. 16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[3] just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."[4] God's Wrath Against Mankind 18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen. 26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. 28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."

Also, not admitting that what he is doing is a sin may lead others to sin (and burn), which compounds the sin of sodomy and fornication that he is committing.

Why don't they just declare themselves the one, true gay church and the other churches can just ship them to the Episcopalians?

We welcome them at my church, just not in the pulpit or other ministry positions, as long as they're practicing. But they are welcome, practicing or not.

Why would the Episcopalians feel any safer with the queers and child molesters in the catholic church???

There are child molestors in every church. The rate for Catholic and non-Catholic clergy is the same as it is for parents, around 2%. The noteworthy aspect of the scandal in the Catholic Church was the fact that some bishops were knowingly transferring homosexual predators from one parish to another. Note that the most infamous bishop, Cardinal Law, has been replaced.

If he was so concerned with anyone leaving, he as a man of God (cough), should have seen what his agenda was doing and will do to his church. Proves what type of individual he is.

I suspect that before too very long, other denominations will also follow and welcome openly gay and lesbian people into leadership positions. That's my prayer

BINGO! We have a winner! That's exactly what he was wanting the whole time.

Leviticus 18:22, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination."

Leviticus 20:13, "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

Deuteronomy 23:17, "There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel."

Yesterday I watched a couple minutes of Dayside (FOX). A woman in the audience said the church should progress with the times and embrace changing attitudes of sexuality, etc. sigh. I didn't know God changed the rules as societies become more and more depraved. ugh.

Actually, where is part of woman and woman. I know of part of man and man but not of women.

Maybe back then women didn't have to be told in writing what was right and wrong, whereas men had to be reminded time and time again.

Birth control and electing a gay bishop are worlds apart.

If someone doesn't want to have children or their life is in danger if they have any more children, then the practice of birth control is a better alternative than someone that has an abortion or brings an unwanted child into the world and then abuses that child.

Catholics practice birth control all the time and they should not be made to feel guilty by doing so IMO!

I had three C-Sections and the doctor said the next one could kill me -- If I had been Catholic like my husband, I guess I would have taken the chance or felt guilty. Well I wasn't and my three kids needed a Mom more than another brother or sister! Some things you don't leave in God's hands, when you have a choice. I chose to be a Mom to three kids and not take a chance.

Condemn me if you want, but that is only one of many reasons that I never became Catholic and my three children were not raised Catholic. I was already condemned by a priest for making my choice to have no more children -- pretty arrogant since I wasn't even Catholic.
