The basis is at least partly biological, but probably it's a lot more environmental than biological, from what I've read. I wish I had saved the article, but in around 1990 or 1991 there was a report in one of the major scientific journals on some big study done of "identical twins raised apart". They found the most interesting correlations! With things such as hair or eye color you would naturally expect to find a 100% correlation. But things that you would expect to have a 0% correlation were not always that way - Things such as whether they were pet owners, and whether they preferred cats or dogs. Things like marital status and even what they named their kids or pets had nonzero correlations. And sexual orientation was also a nonzero correlation. Now, if homosexuality is entirely genetic then you'd expect to see close to 100% correlation, and if it is entirely environmental then you'd expect to see 0%. As I recall, this particular figure was nearer to 0% than to 50% (can't swear to that) - but it definitely was not zero.

The important fact is that genes can PREDISPOSE someone to a certain orientation, but can't force them into it. Similarly, they have found genes that affect your chances of becoming an alcoholic, and genes that affect your chances of being obese or overweight, and genes that can give you lifelong learning disabilities. The good news is that in almost all categories of behavior, we are NOT prisoners of our genes. But depending on our genetic makeup, some of will have a lot tougher uphill road to climb in order to stay sober, or to stay slim, or to become educated, or to be heterosexual.

It can be any of the above, although reasonable people can differ as to the degree of biological influence. I believe, with significant scientific basis IMO, that the biological influence is substantial, and generally greater than environmental factors.

It is the people who deny there is any biological basis at all who are refusing to face reality. These are often the same type of people who don't believe in evolution, but I digress.

I am constantly amazed at the amount of faith it takes to accept evolution and the big-bang as the origin of all life. You are accepting something you can't see, something you can't prove, something that isn't here, something you can't touch, to be the gospel truth!

I called my daughter about Bravo and their sat dish. they have/are writing letters about it. If it gets too bad, they will just drop TV, period. Their children range from 7 to 12, and they are very involved with what they can see. Some of Caroon Network is even banned in their home.

FYI - AIDS only became known as a "gay" disease because it migrated from Africa to Haiti around 1980 via homosexual contact. Had the Africans who transmitted it to gay Haitians/Americans (primarily on tropical vacations) been HETEROsexual, and transmitted it to "straight" Haitians/Americans instead, AIDS would've become known as a plain old, albeit deadly, venereal disease.

Today, tens of thousands of heterosexual Africans in Africa are dying of AIDS. That's DYING, not "dieing" (your spelling).

We have our grandchildren over to spend the night all the time. They are 6 and 8.

We will be writing letters to the advertisers regarding your programing of Queer Eye and Boy meets Boy. Why not be fair and have Hetero meets Hetero.. and Missionairy style meets Missionary style? Or Virgin meets Virgin?

Huh? Preconceptions? Dude, this was like one of the major, nastiest experiences I've ever had. Did you miss that? Every day, Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 4:00, one-cubicle-over, too close for comfort, after a while... YUCK!!!

But the odd thing was maybe that it was so unlike the previous, pretty much obvious experience I've had being around gay dudes in the locker room at the health club... And being able to keep a distance... It just made me keenly aware that you *can't* stereotype. I mean one-on-one.

In a mostly vague sort of way, I think I agree with you about the need for some guys to find solace from their overwhelming (hormones? desires? critical loads? dinky little egos?) in canteloupes, barnyard animals, even other men. But who knows? It's really got nothing to do with me. I have no way of knowing.

I would if I could. I am, however, getting sick of being told "if you don't want to see it turn it off" when homosexuals refuse to do so.

You got it! The Gay-stapo did the best they could to stop the Dr. Laura television show before it finally aired -- and failed on its own merits (click here for my take on why it didn't work).
