Shooter Ready
Free Republic ^ | Today | Unk

Posted on 07/14/2003 6:37:02 PM PDT by SLB

I found this on a thread here today and felt it worthy of a thread of its own. We have lots of "shooters" here on FR and this is the chance for them to see how good they really are. So lets have a little informal competition. We will use the honor system, no cheating or inflated or deflated scores. I tried it once this afternoon and got a 51. Sure nothing to brag about. Lets see how some of the FReeper shooters such as: Shooter 2.5; Dead Corpse; Andonius_99; TexasCowboy; Blood of Tyrants; 30-06 Springfield; TC Rider; Joe Brower; Sit-Rep; Squantos;; Lion Den Dan; JackFromTexas; Mortimer Snavely; Jeff Head; Travis McGee; harpseal, and a host of others do in this.

Good luck to one and all and if anyone springs for the CD let me know how they like it, I am being tempted. Now, click on the link and let the fun began.

-11. What does MOA mean? I guessed that each graduation on the scope was .5 but I couldn't translate that into clicks and minutes after doing my range calc.'s. I did better when I just figgered "oh, about this high and this fur over".

Oh well. 44 on my second try without doing any range finding. It's nice when targets don't run. ; )

LOL.........well the first time I scored a 50 and then I went to my .338 lapua range/data card that I have for a dakota arms longbow, A 7.62 Federal HPBT 168 gr match range/data card for my remington 700 and I just had to wing it for the .50 BMG rounds.

Third time I ran it I was a happy camper.....ya ain't cheatin ya ain't tryin, ya ain't tryin yer dyin !

My first run on it was awful......doom on me ! I didn't see the windage tell tale till tuesday !....my bad....old grey matter showing it's age ..... .

MOA = Minute Of Angle
Angles are measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds. There are 60 seconds per angular minute, 60 minutes per angular degree. A "sub-MOA-accurate" rifle is supposed to be able to reliably deliver repeat shots to within /less than one minute of angle of the first shot, the angle in question having its vertyex at the muzzle. Of course, that's generally taken to mean a benched and blocked rifle... not a free-weapon shot.

reckon the .308 version will work well enough for 7.62x39? on a bullpup?

Shooting off-hand, with my Martini-Henry Cadet carbine re-chambered for a .357M pistol round, I can shoot the eye-lash off of a gnat at 100 yards. On the third shot. That is, of course, if the gnat hasn't anything better to do.

GREAT little program!

Only scored a 28; would have been better, but I took so many shots to hit the target in Rd. 5 that I got a -3!

Great link- Thanks!

Thanks for the complements. Great way to relax. Just make sure that if you are shooting at work you turn the sound down whne the boss walks by. ;-)

I guess I have not contributed much to the productivity of the workforce by posting this.

Very cool little simulator! I'll check this out once I get work out of the way.

My son bought the first version a couple of years ago.

I haven't touched the demo since then and I tried to figure out distances from the tutorial for the last hour. I think it's going to take me all day to remember how to range and figure out the wind.

I'll get back to this sometime today.

So far, I know the target is 30 inches high and .833 of a yard. Since all I have to do is divide the mil dots to the 833, that should make my calculations a little easier.

I don't think that was too bad considering I wasn't adjusting the sites until after I missed 'E' and 'F' about 20 times.

Second time around I shot a 52. That second target on 'J' continues to evade me.
