The Tenet Fiasco - Discussion Thread
self

Posted on 07/12/2003 12:52:33 PM PDT by Cathryn Crawford

George Tenet's admission last night that it was his mistake that caused President Bush to use faulty intelligence in his State of The Union address is interesting at the same time as it is convienent. In the statement itself, which is lengthy and filled with reasons as to the intelligence failure, Tenet wholeheartedly takes responsility for his agency.

"Let me be clear about several things right up front. First, CIA approved the President's State of the Union address before it was delivered. Second, I am responsible for the approval process in my Agency. And third, the President had every reason to believe that the text presented to him was sound. These 16 words should never have been included in the text written for the President. "

On the face of it, this admission seems like the perfect solution to the growing problems for both the Bush and Blair administration. It's all CIA's fault, they can claim. But is that really viable?

On the face of it, perhaps. But Bush is the President. He has to take final responsibility, doesn't he?

If Bush can truly claim to know absolutely nothing, then don't we have a serious problem - wouldn't that imply that Bush is either incompetent or is simply not paying attention?

For discussion purposes - has Bush been conned by Tenet? And if he has, isn't that rather serious?

And if he wasn't conned by Tenet, what is the alternative?

In any case, I believe the globalists have been working on all this long enough to be playing all sides against the middle.

Who are these globalists? Can we see them? Have they made any public statements or do they just work behind the scenes?

Reminds me of the LDS threads, where questioning is seen to be bashing, and bashing leads to banning. FR has a distinct rhythm to it, sometimes.

I have no idea about the LDS threads, but Cathryn Crawford made certain statements in the opening of this thread that some have responded to and she has ignored.

I have no problem with questioning, but it appears some have their conclusions already drawn and then claim they are merely questioning. Since the "questions" have been answered and not even a debate on the particulars has ensued I can only conclude they were not questions at all.

I am quite sure that to most Americans, myself included, this is the biggest non-issue of the day.

Does anyone seriously doubt that we did the right thing by deposing Saddam?

By making the arguement they are making the Democrats seem to be saying that they aren't sure we did the right thing.

Well, that is exactly what I would expect from them.

Thank God for George W. Bush!

Whatever happened to "The Buck Stops Here?"

Is everyone now doing the Klintonian pass the buck?

Cathryn can't have her yellow cake and eat it too. She asked for opinions. She got them.

Senator Warner said today they investigatged about VP Cheney and others from the Administration and could find no place they put influence on anyone from CIA or they had anyone go investigate.

Bush did not lie. It may have been inaccurate, but it was never a lie. There is a difference between lying and not having complete exact facts. The Rats don't seem to know the difference. (of course they don't even know what "IS" is or what constitutes sex, so what would you expect.

I know this was just the first of your points, but... The Rats know all about lying, and by saying that they wouldn't have allowed the war to happen without the yellow cake quote, they are being extremely disingenuous, since they voted in the fall to support the President on using force... not AFTER his SOTU speech, like they want their constituents to believe.

I guess we are homework?

No, most of us are just "gals" without brains, or plagiarists. Or we're potential dupees, semantic idiots, rhetorical fools who don't know that the word media is plural.

It's not a cooking thread, but a reporter at the Washington Post has cooked up an article for tomorrow morning dealing with Tenet and the whole situation:

Why Bush Used It In Jan. Is Unclear

Your trashing of SecDef Rumsfeld is uncalled for! Why don't you ask the people at Tinker AFB what they think of Rumsfeld -- they have total respect for him and for Vice President Cheney and President Bush!

BTW your one post doesn't match your second one to me!

UNTIL all you have settled it with Clinton... UNTIL you have held him accountable... UNTIL you have stopped the buck at his feet.... You have no right to pile on this President.

I vote, pay taxes, and have the right to pile on anyone I damn well please. "Klinton did it" is an unacceptable excuse with me. I pile on my two sinators(and work for their defeat) all the time, and I talk to my state reps as well. The President works for me. It's no different.

Klinton's gone(and belongs in jail as for Mena and China as far as I'm concerned). Thank God for that. When Bush does something good, I'll be one of the first to support what he did. Bill Pryor for example is an excellent judicial candidate.

When Bush does wrong, I'll say so. I expect a lot out of my president. When his underlines screw up badly, I expect appropiate action to take place.

"I have a lot of respect for Rummy, too."

Your "respect" is quite obvious in your comments.

"I still suspect Rummy..."

"And I don't trust Rummy's..."

"Nor would I put it past him as a puppet master to exercise..."

What Bush said in the State of the Union Address was correct. Of course, that didn't help Newt, Trent, or many other Republicans.
