The Tenet Fiasco - Discussion Thread

George Tenet's admission last night that it was his mistake that caused President Bush to use faulty intelligence in his State of The Union address is interesting at the same time as it is convienent. In the statement itself, which is lengthy and filled with reasons as to the intelligence failure, Tenet wholeheartedly takes responsility for his agency.

"Let me be clear about several things right up front. First, CIA approved the President's State of the Union address before it was delivered. Second, I am responsible for the approval process in my Agency. And third, the President had every reason to believe that the text presented to him was sound. These 16 words should never have been included in the text written for the President. "

On the face of it, this admission seems like the perfect solution to the growing problems for both the Bush and Blair administration. It's all CIA's fault, they can claim. But is that really viable?

On the face of it, perhaps. But Bush is the President. He has to take final responsibility, doesn't he?

If Bush can truly claim to know absolutely nothing, then don't we have a serious problem - wouldn't that imply that Bush is either incompetent or is simply not paying attention?

For discussion purposes - has Bush been conned by Tenet? And if he has, isn't that rather serious?

And if he wasn't conned by Tenet, what is the alternative?

PKM has clearly and repeatedly stated her objection regarding Ms. Crawford. Perhaps you need to read the entire thread, or at a minimum, read all of PKM's posts!

My opinion of CIA Director Tenet changed over the months leading up to the Iraqi War and really changed when he was here in Norman as the commencement speaker for my son's graduation from The University of Oklahoma!

If OU President David Boren supports CIA Director Tenet and after hearing his speech, then so do I. Since I posted those remarks, I have discovered a lot of things about Director Tenet that I respect.

I have, and it's a crock of BS. Mom is bitchin about what Ms. Crawford does part-time, while in her tag in no un-certain manner, she points out that she supports Bush in 04, going so far as to beg for $4 for his re-election.

Well I'm late to this "dog fight". Will just reiterate what's been running through my mind the last couple of days.

1. Bush did not lie. It may have been inaccurate, but it was never a lie. There is a difference between lying and not having complete exact facts. The Rats don't seem to know the difference. (of course they don't even know what "IS" is or what constitutes sex, so what would you expect.

There are many possibilites here.
a. The source was skewed --not accurate (Tenet IS a CLinton appointee with ties to "Leaky" Leahy and Senator Heintz. He could be part of the Vast Left WIng Conspiracy.)
b. The information is correct, but to substantiate it might endanger either the physical source "person" or receiving materials from that source. (Why kill the cow when it is still giving milk?)
c. In compiling the information (there were probably many facets), many scenarios were probably theorized. This was just one theory. (My reaction to the possibility that SH was trying to obtain yellowcake to make nuclear weapon is it's better to error on the side of protecting our country than on distroying it.)
d. Tenet is sending a message to his fellow democrats. (Tenet:"I'm-a-democrat-too-so-you-guys-running-for-office-who-have-nothing-between-the-ears-and-are-just-full-of-*****-and-haven't-the foggiest-idea-of-what's-happening-but-love-to-hear-yourselves-talk-shut-the-h***-up-Lefties-get-lost-I want-my-party-back")

The problem with this statement is that, an "objection" is being made, by someone that demands that the person who the "objection" is about, bow to this persons views.

I could make an "objection" that IMHO, Mom has made a fool of herself and she should stop. Do you honestly think she would, just because I made an "objection"?
