From my e-mail:

"The hearing on AB-50 that was scheduled for July 1st in the CA Senate Public Safety Committee was postponed at the “Request of the author”. Assemblyman Koretz (D-Hollywood) removed his bill from the agenda just as the committee convened at 10:40 AM on Tuesday. The hearing has been rescheduled for Tuesday July 8th at 0830 AM in the same committee. FCSPI will be there.

You might want to go to the following URL for a current analysis of AB-50: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/asm/ab_0001-0050/ab_50_cfa_20030701_134448_sen_comm.html

You will note that very few personal letters of opposition have come in on this bill to the Senate Public Safety Committee. This is one of the biggest gauges they use to judge how their constituents feel on a particular bill. We still have a week left and need all the help and support we can get. Attached below is the URL to get fax numbers, phone numbers and addresses of the members on the Senate Public Safety Committee. Please send them a letter.

*******

We have a dedicated volunteer from Assemblyman Koretz’s own district in Hollywood who will fax your letter to all Assembly & Senate members at no cost to you if you get it to him. Please take advantage of this offer.

If you know of anyone that would like to fax their letters but can't do so because of time, no fax machine, or cost in phone bills, let me know; they (or you) can forward them to my fax, and I will fax them to ALL 80 local/Sacramento fax numbers for them for free! Surprisingly, the faxes really are getting through.

Ron's fax number is 310-551-6841 or send copies to: Ron Hess, P.O. Box 965, Los Angeles, CA 90078 . He will be sure they all get faxed as fast as he receives them."

Makes a fellow wonder, doesn't it? And, they should have made one of the answers: For the protection of STUDENTS and themselves. Clever how they worded it, no?

"No. It's unsafe".

These people are morons. What is currently unsafe is walking around defenseless knowing that there are criminals on the loose.

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
a. Yes, for their protection.  (31%)
b. No, it's unsafe.  (66%)
c. Not sure  (3%)

Looks to me like the numbers are not changing any at all
Also I noticed that there is no total for the number of votes such as are usually shown on polls of this kind

Draw you own conclusion. The numbers are staying the same.

'Really? How many?"

I'll have to dig up the info to be exact. The anti-gun nuts didn't exactly want it to be public information.

Pearl, MS I specifically remember, Seems like at least 2 of the other ones were to. The teachers weapons had to be retrieved from their car.

Agree.........nothing changing on the vote. Israel allows teachers, volunteers or aides to carry in classrooms to prevent the Columbines/PLO thang and they don't seem to suffer murder in the schools like the USA does......

Stay Safe and carry.......easier to get forgiveness than permission IMHO.

I'd say it depends on the teacher. Some of the PC socialists my kids have been exposed to have no business carrying a weapon, if their espoused positions are any indication of their grasp on reality.

I just voted and I have to say I think the "results" are preordained by FOX and I think that's....disappointing, to say the least.

"Really? How many?"

From memory, Pearl, Miss by one of the school who ran to his car to get his gun; the one near Erie, PA where the owner of the restaurant used a shotgun; and the law school shooting in VA last year by two students who ran to their cars and got their guns and forced the shooter to surrender. It was reported that the shooter was tackled by other students. Yeah, he was. After being held at bay by two men with guns. There were others, but I can't remember them off hand right now.

Change the wording ever so slightly -- no doubt the results would be significantly different

Should police officers be allowed to carry guns at school?
a. Yes, for their protection. (more than 31%)
b. No, it's unsafe. (less than 66%)
c. Not sure (an irrelevant 3%)

YES! The teacher at Columbine, and maybe this is rumor, who died had been rejected for a CWP just a few months prior. Had he been carrying, H&K would not have killed him and a few more after him.

If a teacher can not be trusted with a firearm why on earth would a parent trust them with their children?

" Israel allows teachers, volunteers or aides to carry in classrooms"

They did so in direct response to terrorist attacks on Israeli schools. Since the change the terrorism has stopped.

No school shooting in this country has EVER been stopped by an ARMED TEACHER. One was delayed by the Principal retrieving his own gun from his car in time to keep the kid from fleeing and continuing the spree, but the damage at that school had already been done.

At my inner city high school there are two other NRA certified Firearms Instructors (besides me) and a half dozen other former military folks (besides me) of that number about half are former SpecOps folks (I was both infantry and an armor officer). I would allow any of these folks to carry concealed any day of the week..but it would be critical that nobody at the school know of the weapon being present. Because there are so many known and dangerous felons at the school, that train themselves to disarm and murder police officers, they would not hesitate to set up a discrete ambush to relieve anybody of their weapon.

These punks have no fear of anything. They don't fear authority, they don't fear the law and they don't fear death. That's a very dangerous combination to have present in school. But this is the enduring situation in all schools...even in your town.
