Sad to lose this fine gentleman, but what an amazing life he had! He was so handsome in his younger years - no wonder he was lucky with the ladies.
Condolences to his family and to the good people of South Carolina.

How very, very sad for our country. He was one of the last men that truly stood his ground on principals and didn't bend with the PC wind.

How very, very sad for our country. He was one of the last men that truly stood his ground on principals and didn't bend with the PC wind. Was he also a vain, womanizing, quintessential political hack? ;-) Well, I hope he's with the Lord.

I was sleeping yesterday evening when it happened. My g/f came to wake me up and told me about it and I thought I was having a nightmare. :-(
Way too many folks have been dying this month. :-(
R.I.P., Senator Thurmond. I do hope you got to see your first grandbaby before you passed...

Rest in peace, Strom.
And don't try to form your own party in heaven, you lovable, crusty SOB. :-)
This depresses me greatly. Depresses me even more to know that there are a lot of people out there *celebrating* this. Yes, I know, I shouldn't bring it up here, but I think about it, and it pisses me off. Kick their butts from on high, Strom. Smite them!
One more good man gone.
Obligatory Donne:
"Death be not proud, though some have called thee"
DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

The DUers have shown their true colors again and they have the nerve to call us freepers hateful. Ignore them. They have no class. Do not drag yourself down to their level. As someone said, go look up the posts here when Wellstone died. Pitt & Co...can let my trained pony bite their weiners off.
