Britain's elite get pills to survive bird flu -- Federal researchers reported last month that Tamiflu — an antiviral drug currently made by one company in one overseas plant — was effective against the strain of avian influenza that health experts fear is close to evolving into a pandemic of human disease similar to one that caused the deadly 1918 "Spanish flu" pandemic.

Choking game's deadly lure -- Really nothing new...in my paramedic days it was called auto-erotic asphyxia.
I think it was in 1969 when the pretty well known underground cartoonist Vaughn Bode killed himself in that manner. No, it's not new at all. I had some friends who were paramedics in the 70's who had some truly amazing on the job stories, stuff only cops and paramedics saw.

Avian Flu Preparedness Project -- Some of the sites on that natural antiflu immune booster (Sambucol) compared it favorably to Tamiflu. At least it's easier to get for nonmedical people.  Tamiflu IS effective, as is Amantadine.
Razeibar - Sambucol products are ideal when you have the flu Open this result in new window

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A strain of the flu is spreading across Florida -- but this form of influenza attacks dogs, not people.

Drug-resistant germ kills 3 children in Chicago. Staph superbug becoming more dangerous in U.S., new report suggests

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9427689/

Also, in my small town in Washington State, we have had two children recently infected by strep (not staph) with soft tissue involvement. One of the patients, a high school football player, presumably picked up the infection from scrape during a game. He has had many (something like 11) operations on the upper arm to remove necrotic and infected tissue. The bacteria are antibiotic resistant. The other child, younger, was in serious condition as well but is mostly recovered.

The odd thing about these is they sound more like staph than strep, right?

Why anyone would conceive of West Nile as a potential bioattack (especially with its well-studied & well-known transmission vectors) is beyond me..

Well it did first pop up in New York City. It's killed more people than the anthrax attack. Using mosquitoes is easier than smuggling in other weapons. Maybe they were trying to see how much panic they could cause. I wouldn't say definitely it was a bioattack, but tell me what these terrorists wouldn't do to attack us.
