So Martha got caught lying about a $20,000 profit; because she lied to the FBI, she's in trouble, not so much for the original crime.

She lied about having a computerized message system where all her incoming phone messages were logged by her assistant.

She lied about having a phone conversation with her broker the day of the sale, when in reality she had the conversation with the broker's assistant.

She lied about . . . [long indictment]

From the "I can't take the irony files"

On other threads today I am reading more recycled Clinton apologies claiming that obstruction of justice is NOT enough to get you fired (ahem X42). Is it possible that Martha has more personal integrity than BC?

Yes, lying is not good. Being pursued by the federal government for doing something that isn't wrong is even worse.

Anyone who values liberty, capitalism and the free market SHOULD have sympathy for her.

Wiz, insider trading is antithetical to all of the above.

she won't remain on BOD for long

We generally have a trial before declaring someone guilty. Even though the FEDS win about 90% of the time, she is still innocent right now.

Wiz, insider trading is antithetical to (liberty, capitalism and the free market).

How so?

The notion of "insider trading" -- which I place in quotes for good reason -- is a sham. Information is a commodity. If I have more of it than you do, than I am lucky, plucky, hard-working, or many other things. What I'm not is bad or immoral. And in a society that's truly free, I am not breaking any laws.

The only thing the government should be involved in with regards to the marketplace is prosecuting FRAUD. That's it. Pursuing the act of "insider trading" is what's antithetical to freedom. It's based on a socialist impulse to create an egalitarian distribution of property. It is born of envy, jealousy and a dislike of capitalism.

Kick her off FoodTV to make room for a barbeque show.

Chillin' and Grillin'... now that was a show. Food TV needs to film new episodes of that one.

Um, "insider joking" is not allowed here. It means you are privvy to information the rest of us don't have, and thus reap benefits -- including "lol" -- that the rest of us don't get.

The feds will be along shortly.

It's a commodity that's not available to all. If trust in the markets falls off we are screwed.

It's all your fault. First you get Todd banned, then Martha banned, next you'll get Hillary banned!

Well that new law sounds good if she gets convicted. A board member where I used to work is currently serving 7 years for insider trading.

the free market

The market isn't free if there is insider trading.

Someone needs to touch a photo of Martha in her jail cell, and label it "Martha Stewart living"
