Who is going to succeed GW?

Posted on 05/29/2003 11:32:51 PM PDT by ampat

Right now, there isn't a Republican presidential candidate ready to run in 2008. We don't need anymore "its my turn" Bob Doles. O'Reilly thinks hillary is a shoe in because the Republicans don't have anyone who can beat her. Cheney needs a rest, John McCain was once a contender but he has been wishy washy lately. Anyone have any nominees?

Well, you back your horse, and I'll back mine. :P I have no idea what kind of President Condi would be (Got any links to edumacate me, with?), but after having Jeb run Florida the past couple of years, I'm MORE than looking forward to the thought of a Jeb Presidency. Personally, I'd like to see them both get 8 years, but I'd prefer Jeb get his 8 years in, first. ;) Besides, a VP Rice can still help convince blacks that there's more than one party. After all, which party will it have been to have had the first black VP on the ballot? The Party of Abolition, that's who.

Agreed, Hitlery would polarize our side like they've never seen before. My out of left field pick for 2008 is Ben Nighthorse Campbell. It's about time a hog was parked at 1600 Pennsyvania Ave. However, since he's probably too old, I'd certainly support Ms. Rice.

Prediction: Hillary will lose her Senate seat in '06 maybe to Giuliani :-) She can ONLY win 08 if a third party ticket is running and takes some GOP votes. McCain/Powell indy ticket in 08? I don't think they would do it, but you never know.

Jeb will run for Pres., probably with Condi Rice. I don't think Powell really wants the job. Better watch out for any McCain ambitions. I haven't seen anything saying Jeb is unpopular across the US. Maybe not well known enough YET but that won't be a problem.

Rudy as Atty General would be okay by me.

Rice could be America's Thatcher, if we're ready for a female president.

Hillary can only depend on the extreme left for votes. The swing voters and independents hate her for the most part and if she ran, she would create historic turnouts for conservatives.
This not only negates and chance she has to become President, but would most certainly cause conservatives to make big gains in Congress as well if she ran.

I hope she runs.
Clinton crimes, rapes, white house firings and other stuff would all hit the fan again. The Clinton's are screwed except in two or three places in the country.

Don't forget that Hillary would get all the Clinton baggage, too. If Al Gore thought the Clinton Legacy was dragging his campaign down, just wait to see what happens when Hillary runs. The pardon of the FALN terrorists, Marc Rich, Health Care, all of that's gonna come back to bite her in the posterior. I doubt her Iconic Co-President image is worth diddly, now. Yeah, she'll get warm and glowing reviews from most of the media, but that'd be the case no matter who was the Democratic candidate.

As for Rick Lazio, well, "I know Jeb Bush. And Rick Lazio is no Jeb Bush". Rick Lazio, from what I understand, ran a craptacular campaign which was pretty much centered around telling people "Don't vote for Hillary. She's EEEEEVILLLLL!". Gotta give the voters something to vote FOR, and it appears that he didn't do that (Correct me if I'm wrong, of course. Been 3 years and I'm not a New Yorker. That's just what I remember from the time). Then there's the fact that he got a late start, as for a while there it was gonna be Rudy who was gonna run against her, but he had to drop out.

Suffice to say, I think Hillary is emminently beatable, so long as the GOP doesn't throw up a lame candidate against her, or run a craptacular campaign.

Who is going to succeed GW?

It hardly matters, does it?

Who should?

Ron Paul, or

Walter Williams, or

Tom Tancredo

This should be discussed in terms not of who will, but who should.

However, handicapping 2008 at such an early stage...you must all know...is somewhat fruitless.

Would like to add that I still somewhat distrust Powell's innate State Dept. tendencies. Would support him more if I believed the State Dept. was being made lean & mean. The conservative purist in me rejects him as CIC because of the possible RINO factor.

But...as the original poster noted...no "it's my turn, now" Doles, thank you, either way.

Good points all.

What's a good place to go to find out more about Jeb, his background, record, etc.? Up here in the frozen tundra, we don't hear too much about him.

I hope she runs.

Never underestimate her lust for power. Never dismiss her, as much as you wish to...

Sure, two can play that game, but do you really want to?

Damn, that's right. I completely forgot about that possibility (Another one being that Pataki might run against her in 2006 when his term's up. Giuliani might go for it 2 years earlier against Schumer).

While I'd enjoy a Hillary beatdown in 08, I'd prefer to see The Beast (TM) put down for good 2 years earlier, before It has an opportunity at defiling the White House again.

Well, here's hoping Giuliani or Pataki crushes her political aspirations once and for all in 2006.

Kasich...not enough steel...Santorum, possibility, but I don't know. Santorum also probably too young.

I'd love to see Rice in 2008...but, offhand, how old is Rummy going to be by then? ;-)

I'm not dismissing her desire to be President, I just know she would lose and drag the Democrat's down further in numbers regarding Congress in the process. It's a win/win!

FReepmail FReeper Summer. She's the local Jeb Groupie who keeps all us other Floridian FReepers up to date. If anyone can give you a comprehensive list of Jeb Bush's accomplishments, she can.

Yep, Rice/Hayworth. They'd get my vote for sure.

You cannot be serious. Hayworth is my Representative and I like his politics and will continue to vote for him. However, on a national level, he comes across as an unelectable blowhard who has no more chance of winning for our side than does Al Sharpton on the left.
