However, handicapping 2008 at such an early stage...you must all know...is somewhat fruitless.

Would like to add that I still somewhat distrust Powell's innate State Dept. tendencies. Would support him more if I believed the State Dept. was being made lean & mean. The conservative purist in me rejects him as CIC because of the possible RINO factor.

But...as the original poster noted...no "it's my turn, now" Doles, thank you, either way.

Having been in the Army when he resigned as Joint Chief, I know he would be loved by the Forces as CIC. If he is soft on going to war it is only because he loves the troops. His policy for Gulf War I was only if we went to war with a clear objective. No more wishy washy Vietnams that were winnable but the politicos had no intention of winning.

That was my impression and practically the same impression of everyone I knew in the military.
