Who is going to succeed GW?

Posted on 05/29/2003 11:32:51 PM PDT by ampat

Right now, there isn't a Republican presidential candidate ready to run in 2008. We don't need anymore "its my turn" Bob Doles. O'Reilly thinks hillary is a shoe in because the Republicans don't have anyone who can beat her. Cheney needs a rest, John McCain was once a contender but he has been wishy washy lately. Anyone have any nominees?

The plethora of social moderates on this forum clamouring to be so PC just kills me.

All these hoorays for folks who are pro-abortion, gun control advocates, etc to run as Pubbie POTUS candidates simply because they are black or a woman etc is proof that the liberalization of our institutions has conquered most of us. Even "conservatives" are now indoctrinated.

Moderation...moderation...moderation...keyword of the day. Let's defeat out foes by becoming more like them...reminds me of Clinton.

Btw....if Condi were not pro-abortion, she would be interesting but we only know about her as a cold warrior mostly....she would need to do a 180 on abortion and let us see much more about her as a policy implementor versus her usual advisory capacity.

GWB will be hard to replace. I'm not sure we've seen his replacement much yet.

Thanks...indeed Alan Keyes would be great....but he is not a politician unfortunately.

No doubt, his views converge with mine more than any other known Pubbie aside from DeLay who is simply to rough to be President in this instant info media age. The media would have him looking like Nixon as Mr. Hyde.

Let Clintoon have his 22nd change, and we can re-elect GW. Seems ideal.

"Rudy as Atty General would be okay by me...."

Gotta use Rudi to bitchslap the Beast in 2006 so she loses her podium.

Condi Rice!! She is Hitlery's worst nightmare!!

As for McCain - he's got cancer on his face, and from the looks of him, it's not getting better.

"...John McCain was once a contender..."

Contender??? I have to respectfully disagree w/ your sentiments. What John McCain is,was, and ever shall be is a RINO and a blathering media hog, who refuses to deal with the illegal immigration problem on his Arizona border.(I can say that because our 2 Liberal Senators here in California are worse than he is.) John McCain is a poor man's Bob Dole and the Republican party should be embarrassed to allow him to call himself a conservative.Someone had to say it,and I wish someone would publicly call him on his perpetual whining on TV.You got your McCain-Feingold Bill passed John and look what happened: May 2,2003 Washington Post ----"... A three-judge panel in Washington struck down several major provisions of the new campaign finance law this afternoon in a much-awaited ruling, setting the stage for a final showdown at the U.S. Supreme Court later this year that will determine the shape, style and bank accounts of the nation's major political campaigns..."Gee John, do you think maybe some of the things you wanted to have happen, were unconstitutional? I think it's Cheney in 2008, as he has many more years of service and his clear thinking (like his longtime friend Don R.) gives him immediate respect and who is going to run attack ads against Dick Cheney? That's right---nobody.

HEAR, HEAR!!!

I too believe that Hillary Clinton will be the next President, not because I think it should happen (in fact I pray it doesn't happen.) but because the insiders have been grooming her to be the first female President since her Arkansas days and there are a lot of hayseed idiots out there who will vote for her because she is a woman or some other stupid reason. She will become President whether she runs next year or bides her time 'til '08.

Bill Owens: as a Coloradan, I think he has provided good solid leadership, not flashy, not a lot of noise, just gets things done. Our state budgets aren't out of control like some others, we have moved siginificantly closer to Vermont style gun laws than we were 8 years ago, despite Columbine, and he's pro-choice. Colorado's not as free as I'd like it to be, but it's ok. If the mood of the country is such that we're looking for a good, solid, middle of the road what-passes-for-conservative-these-days kind of guy, he'd probably do. If we're looking for excitement, vision and charisma, no.

This may come as a shock to Oreilly but Hillary Clinton is UNELECTABLE as a presidential candidate. She can't make it in 2004 and her liberal greatness will be forgotten by 2008.

I heard Owens once on a talk show. I was impressed by his knowledge, no-nonsense approach to governance, and his strong defense of a conservative approach to spending.

.What John McCain is,was, and ever shall be is a RINO and a blathering media hog

He just voted AGAINST the tax cut, he called it a "tax cut for the rich", even the other RINO's wouldn't use DEMONCRAT talking points. It looks like Arizona has gone over to the dark side with McCain and that IDIOT governor you elected (I live in CA, this is NOT personal, LOL)

Okay, how's this for a scenario?

How about a Cheney/Bush ticket in 2004? If Cheney wins, that leaves Bush eligible to run in 2008, assuming Cheney survives at least through 2006. In fact, Cheney can "retire" in 2006, and Bush can assume the presidency and hopefully max out the two-term or 10 years part of the Constitution by finishing Cheney's term and then getting another term in 2008.
