REAL state song of Alabama:
Broad the Stream whose name thou bearest
Grand thy Bigbee rolls along
Fair thy Coosa-Tallapoosa
Bold the Warrior, dark and strong
Goodlier than the land that Moses
Climbed lone Nebo's Mount to see
Alabama, Alabama
We will aye be true to thee
Brave and pure thy men and women
Better this than corn and wine
Make us worthy, God in Heaven
Of this goodly land of Thine
Where the perfumed south-wind whispers
Thy magnolia groves among
Softer than a mother's kisses
Sweeter than a mother's song
Where the golden jasmine trailing
Woos the treasure-laden bee
Alabama, Alabama
We will aye be true to thee
Wow!...... I'm Alabammy bound!

Mornin Mama Bear! Nice write up about Alabama, learned a few things I didn't know about the state.
Would you believe that I've made that pork chop recipe a few times and it is good!

Favorite song by Alabama....well, I love a lot of their songs, but I think my favorites are "If It Ain't Dixie" and "Pony Express". I'd post the words, but I don't know where to find them and I'm not sure I remember them all right off hand.

Back when I was first married, I bought him a University of Alabama cap ... big mistake, you should have seen the looks I got .. LOL

Mornin', Mama_Bear! This is an historic day. The 'perfect' hostess has finally slipped. LOL!
"Leonard Skynard?" Don't you mean "Lynyrd Skynyrd" or is Leonard a distant relative?
I'm sure Billie will be very happy. Her envy at your perfection was growing worse and worse. :-)

Good Morning! What a great idea for new threads! You always learn something new here at FR's Finest. Thanks for putting this together, I am impressed (as always). Thought I would share a recipe. :) Have a good one. Happy Friday!
Alabama Breakfast Pie
3 cups frozen shredded potatoes
5 Tbs melted butter
1 cup finely chopped cooked ham
1 packed cup shredded sharp cheese
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped green peppers
* I also like to add a few Jalapenos for some heat
Mix together:
3 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
Thaw potatoes between layers of paper towels to remove excess moisture. Press potatoes into bottom and up the sides on an ungreased 9 inch pie plate drizzled with butter. Bake at 425 ° for 25 mins or until lightly browned - cool on wire rack. This crust can be frozen after baking. Layer from bottom up on crust (if frozen - has been thawed). Ham · Onion · Peppers · Pimento · Cheese. Cover with egg/milk mixture. Bake at 375 ° for 35-40 mins or until set. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

The state game bird of Alabama is the wild turkey. (Wild Turkey recipes?) ;-)
Just leave to a guy named "bourbon" to post this recipe. It's real simple, and I think you'll enjoy it. Just don't drink too much. All you need is a good glass and maybe some ice (if that's your thing).
BTW, I loved your tribute to the state of AL, but then again I'm a UofA graduate. I suspect that the Auburn folks will feel a bit shorted by it. Don't say I didn't warn you! :-)
anyway thanks for paying tribute to a state I love! (Roll Tide!)

Hey everyone. Boy have I had a busy week. Mr. Teacup is out of town, so I thought I'd have an easy week. Last week I helped my neighbor find a evening gown for the $5000.00 dollar a couple Presidental dinner fund raiser? Well, it turned out her hubby could not make it, so she took me. Due to some scheduling problems I missed the President's comments, and I didn't get there until the latter part of the dinner.
I figured I'd give you all a report as to who was there, but someone stole our programs. We did come out of there with some nice T-Shirts. The say, "Presidental Dinner". I feel bad, because I wanted to scan the program and show everyone what they looked like and all, but God bless the person who ripped us off. I'm sorry I don't have any thing to report.
We stayed for the dance and had a good time. The band they had was from Texas and was basically "Disco" with a girl group called the "Hot Tomatos", LOL. They were very good. I'm sorry, I wish I could have made it for the all intro's and stuff, but hey, I found out at noon I had to be ready by 4PM.

Wow! Thanks for the great thread!
I have one thing to add. Alabama has a Frank Lloyd Wright home, located in Florence, the only one in Alabama.
