Assault Weapons Ban : not any more - its way worse.

All you anti-AWB people : listen closely. The "extended" assault weapons ban would ban TONS of guns, including ALL semi-automatic shotguns, ALL shotguns that hold < 5 rounds, M1 Garand, Mini-14, ALL semi-autos that can have > 10 rounds with or without fixed magazine.
Gives the attorney general the ability to declare a gun "not sporting" and subsequently ban it.
That's right folks, its the big one. They want 'em all. -Still- feel playing complacent about them not taking away your guns? If this goes through, handguns are toast in <= 5 years. 30 caliber rifles next. Then, there's not much left.
Its bad.

If, in the wisdom of our leaders, this Bill is extended, everyone should vote for hillary and let's get this gun confiscation thing over with as quickly as possible. We should set the example and be the first member-nation of the UN to completely unload.

Because I will not give up my guns willingly. I will use them to keep them.

You too, huh? When I put the shoulder stock back on my Mossberg the slugs started coming out like nerf-balls. It's great - the dog likes to catch 'em in the air...
To: OOPisforLiberals
Since my Mini-14 now seems to be an illegal assault weapon, along with my semi-auto shotguns, I've just decided to sell them all. Yup, all gone. Sold 'em all. No guns left.
Old joke from Poland when it was communist:
Man sees farmer pouring motor oil on his garden, asks "What are you doing?". Farmer replies: "Oiling my guns"

I was talking to my Father-in-Law a few years ago about the situation in this country. He is a WWII vet and very successful and well respected member of the community. He is also a mild mannered person.
I was really surprised when he said he is afraid God is going to hold us responsible for not literally taking up arms against some of the evil forces in this country. It was obvious that he is the type person who would join the "regulators" or "vigilantes". I never thought there were many people still around who would fight but they are out there. My own Father, also a WWII vet has expressed similar ideas.

My wife's dad is about to turn 80 and it's a durn good thing that Clinton isn't in office or Gore either. The old guy just kept sitting in front of the TV on election night mumbling about having nothing to lose and everything to gain...especially for the next generation. I tell you, it was scary. Here is a guy who won the DFC in WWII with the famed Black Sheep squadron for being a triple ace...that's 15 air to air kills, folks. He was "dead" serious.

I thought I read somewhere that a AWB bill would never make it out of the house, in any form.

Chill out fellow Freepers and enjoy what is unfolding now and what is going to unfold over the next year up to the elections.
Bush signalled to the Dimocrats that he would sign a renewal of the AWB. The right Dims bit.
Mr Delay assures us it will never see the floor of the House in any form. No bill of any kind will ever make it out of committee. I believe him.
The Dimocrats have been dupped into pleading publically and hysterically for ridiculous levels of gun control and they will be continually baited right up until the election.
It is another opportunity for the Bush Admin to highlight the true nature of the Dimocrats and it appears to me that the Dimocrats have taken the bait and are screaming with it as predicted.
This is behaviour you could not purchase and the Dims are shouting it from the roof tops for free.
Enjoy. Half of the game of politics is guile and the other half is patience. Not to say that continually enforcing with your Congress critters the importance of letting the AWB sunset is not useful. It is. But at least enjoy the show the Dims are giving us in the run up to the elections.

This is the "out" the Bush Administration needs.
All he has to say is this bill isn't the one he promised to sign.
Keep those cards and letters coming.

Let the bastards try it.

I was in Brazil 30 years ago.
No centerfire long guns. No semiautomatic shotguns or shotgun slugs. Movement along the main public arterials, outside the population centers, was punctuated every 40 to 60 kilometers by government check points and you did stop for inspection.
Sounds like our compassionate conservatives are adopting the "Brazilian" model.

I thought I read somewhere that a AWB bill would never make it out of the house It probably won't.
The trick they'll play is to slip it in during conference committee onto some larger bill, and not give members time to read the bill.

Bush signalled to the Dimocrats that he would sign a renewal of the AWB. The right Dims bit. I agree. Bush said what he said knowing full well that this bill will not ever see his desk. Rove will keep the Republican fence sitters in line. Sure, some Republicans will vote for it just as some Democrats will not. But in the end, the AWB renewal will be either outright killed or transferred to some subcommitee where bills go to die.
Everything has been planned out and pre-arranged. This President absolutely controlls the current congress.
It was nothing more than a shrewd political move by Mr. Bush to maintain votes among the gun-hating soccer moms.

Bush has said he would sign this bill if it gets to his desk. When has he said he'd sign THIS? He did say he'd sign a simple renewal, but I don't recall him ever saying he'd support any expansion.
