Assault Weapons Ban : not any more - its way worse.
NRA ^

Posted on 05/12/2003 4:56:44 PM PDT by OOPisforLiberals

All you anti-AWB people : listen closely. The "extended" assault weapons ban would ban TONS of guns, including ALL semi-automatic shotguns, ALL shotguns that hold < 5 rounds, M1 Garand, Mini-14, ALL semi-autos that can have > 10 rounds with or without fixed magazine.

Gives the attorney general the ability to declare a gun "not sporting" and subsequently ban it.

That's right folks, its the big one. They want 'em all. -Still- feel playing complacent about them not taking away your guns? If this goes through, handguns are toast in <= 5 years. 30 caliber rifles next. Then, there's not much left.

Its bad.

If Bush does sign it we're cooked. The last line of defense between a tyrannical government and its citizens are guns.

If Bush signs it, he's cooked. I've heard all the arguments from the solid repubo/Conservatives on this; they are not entirely wrong, but there are enough one-issue voters to make the difference between Repubos having a 20 year stretch as the majority or a generation of minority status. The latter turn of events would mean the end of the Republic and some very bad times ahead. Visualize President Hillary. That's enough to make me barf for 24 hours straight!

compromised back to just the AWB to show how the worthless politicians "saved the day".

Yep... onerous legislation always seems to get slipped in during a midnight conference session, when the reps have to vote on it the next day, and don't have time to read it.

BTW, I just finished your latest book.... I enjoyed it and it was good to see the tide turn towards the end... can't wait for the next 2 books. Keep up the good work.

That's exactly why I said "We're cooked".

You make a good point about 1 issue voters. At this point it's hard for me to believe that Bush would put himself into this position....unless he knows there is no way it's going to get passed. ??

Thanks for those kind words about the books. I just released a 2nd Edition of Volume I that is updated for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mainly for new readers because a couple of things I wrote about in 2000 (like the demise of Hussein and how Iraq is engulfed into the GIR) needed to flow with current history.

Please consider a review on Amazon for Volume III if you are so inclined and have the time.

As to the topic of this thread, I'm hoping against hope that the AWB is DOA, both as it was, and as to what these traitors to the constitution would like to see it be.

Jeff

They'll try to disarm us long before we try the reverse. They have the legal machinery, but we have 1000 times more guns.

Are you saying they would disobey orders?
That would be a change.

"The kids of today who think the musket toting "Minuteman" is a white racist genocidal Indian killing maniac will be writing the laws in twenty years."

Yes, I see the 'word police' are out in full force again. We won't have to wait twenty years. Corrupt the language and you corrupt the definition of freedom, rights, and any expression of truth. Oops! Too late. Time to put the educational system on trial for teaching us to use the English language after the manner of slaves, denying us recourse in the courts because of our ignorance. For lack of that knowledge, we have perished, are perishing, and will continue to perish, guns or no.

"I am so mad at the Assault Weapons Ban. Now I will not be able to stage my own Waco scenario, Rambo style. Bush, you have let me down."

Nah, Bush didn't let you down. You can still do your Waco reenactment. Just douse yourself with Coleman fuel, and then grab your lit peace candle. For that extra realism, you should run a propane line up your clymer and bring all your blow up toys you listed on your income tax returns as your wives.

Unless something happens to change our course, the freedom we cherished will be extinct in our lifetimes.

[18 USC 922(v)(1)] shall not apply to any firearm...which is otherwise lawfully possessed on the date of the enactment of this subparagraph.

Wonderful. So we can keep our guns (at least until the NEXT bill), but we condemn future generations to perpetual slavery and tyranny.

If this illegitimate edict passes, they may as well remove the provision and say they are all "illegal", so we can get it over with.

So instead we got Bush, and the problem persists. What difference did it make?

The projection is dismal. The current generation of under 30s barely cares, and the next won't remember or care at all about the freedom we knew.

Very true. Most of the pro-Constitution folks that I know are in their 40s or 50s.

The attitude of many of the ones under 30 can be summarized by the reply I got when I asked one to read the US Constitution.

The reply was: "F*** that s***"

They are more interested in the football game or who's doing who on "Friends" than anything related to real life.

If history just drifted along in straight lines, we'd be done.

But usually history moves in lurches, so who knows? Maybe there are still wild cards in the deck.

So if we don't have some defining historical event to change the tide, freedom in America will simply go extinct in the next half century.

I completely agree..And as each year slips by, that event grows more distant, and remote.

"But, if I we are to be labeled "old geezers", that's fine ... labels are also good camo ... I would challenge the "young geezers" to keep up with us on a hike up a 10,000 ft. mountain range here in my local vicinity. We can train together and see who is most useful after a day of hard humping up and down those rough old hills.

... just give me 3-4 weeks to get ready, ok?"

LOL! Jeff? I'd need 3 months heavy conditioning training to kepp up with you fellas! :) I'm starting to forget why I walk into rooms now. Ugh. I was hoping to get a rise out a few of my highly esteemed patriot friends.

Best Regards,
Griffin
