A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....05-12-03....Military Monday

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Restoring America's Foundation
By Donald E. Wildmon

Once upon a time a group of people decided to build a new building. It would be an unusual building, the likes of which the world had never seen. They would call their beautiful new structure America. The builders knew the foundation must be exceptionally strong. The design called for three mighty pillars: faith, family and freedom. Each would undergird equally the weight of the building. So construction began on the building called America.

The workers labored faithfully to insure the three pillars of faith, family and freedom were strong enough to withstand wind, rain and attacks of the enemy. For many the task consumed their whole life. However their children, catching their father's dream, continued to work on the building and to insure the strength of the three supporting pillars.

Generations passed, but each did its part to maintain the glorious building which had become the most treasured and admired structure in all the world. They gave of themselves freely. Some even sacrificed their very lives and fortunes to preserve its integrity. And they always made sure that the supporting pillars of faith, family and freedom were sound. They knew that the existence of the entire building rested upon the strength of the three pillars.

Years later some began to question the need to maintain all three pillars. They thought only two were necessary. So they began to ignore the pillar of faith. Due to neglect, the pillar of faith fell into disrepair and became weak. The weight of the building called America shifted to the two remaining pillars of family and freedom.

Everyone noticed that the foundation underneath the building called America was sagging. They blamed many things, but seldom gave serious consideration to the deteriorating pillar of faith. Before long, because of the weakening of the pillar of faith, the pillar of family began to fail. The pillar of freedom began to crumble under the load.

Some people saw what was happening to the building and tried to restore the pillar of faith. Other scoffed at them, calling them old-fashioned and traditional. Many tried to prop up the building called America using a variety of techniques. But few were interested in strengthening the pillar of faith.

One day, to the surprise and sadness of the world, the building called America collapsed. A voice trapped beneath the crumbling structure was heard to cry out: "No building like America can ever stand except on the three equal pillars of faith, family and freedom." And with that the once magnificent building called America perished and disappeared into the rubble of history.

A FEW QUOTES FROM AMERICA'S BEGINNINGS

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ." - Patrick Henry

"We have staked the whole future of America's civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions ...upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." - James Madison

"And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis - a conviction in the minds of people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep forever." - Thomas Jefferson

"He who shall introduce into the public affairs the principles of primitive Christianity will change the face of the world." - Benjamin Franklin

I had a "Drug" Problem when I was a young person.

I was "drug" to church on Sunday morning.
I was "drug" to church on Sunday night, and was "drug" to church on Wednesday night.
I was "drug" to Sunday School;
I was "drug" to church school
and "drug" to the family alter to pray.
I was also "drug" to the woodshed when I disobeyed my
parents, told a lie, bought home a bad report card or did not speak with respect.
Those "drugs" are still in my veins, and they affect my behavior in nearly everything I do and say and think.
They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin.
If More children had the "Drug" problem, America would certainly be a better place.

I've just finished reading all the posts and have committed to memory every word written of me, both the good (very little of that) and the bad. To those who were kind or at least didn't attack me, I thank you. :-)

For the rest of you.......

Actually Billie wasn't all that bad but I'm including her on general principle. :-)

Gleghorn has attended three of the city's four previous Billy Graham missions. He was 8 years old for the first one in 1958, a freshman in high school for the second one in 1964 and now a senior pastor during this year's mission.

Great article, Dubya. I also attended the 1964 crusade held at the old Balboa Park Stadium in San Diego. I was stationed in San Diego at the time and went to several of the meetings, and sang in the Crusade Choir.
