I bet the dems will claim that General Longstreet was a closet lib who lost the Battle of Gettysburg on purpose to undermine the Confederacy...and is thus a true civil rights hero, and worthy of their nonsense.

General Longstreet was a closet lib who lost the Battle of Gettysburg on purpose to undermine the Confederacy ...I think Longstreet did become a Republican after the War; maybe that is what the RATs will publicize.
To: Saeder
well, the dems are racist bigots anyway.... seems like a natural fit
To: Martin Tell
You're right - I had forgotten about his post-war politics...they'll blame us, for sure.

The best thing we could do is not say a thing, they want us to bitch about this in order to lure away Southern voters from the Republican party. The last thing we want to do is trash the Democratic party at the expense of the South. I dont think this happend by accident, I think they are actually hopeing we raise hell about this.

Making an issue of this is PC run wild. James Longstreet was a lifelong friend of his West Point classmate Ulysses Grant. After the Civl War, he alienated diehard defenders of the Lost Cause by becoming a Republican. His postwar defense of his own conduct at Gettysburg was regarded as disloyalty to Robert E. Lee by the diehard Confederates.

The Bill Clinton Outdoor Royal Outhouse and Bar in downtown Little Rock. Good place to hold it.

It is not Longstreet Theater but instead Longstreet Theatre (they use the Southron spelling). And the article fails to note that it is on the University of South Carolina campus.
Historic Longstreet TheatreThis familiar campus landmark, built along the lines of a Roman temple, was designed originally as a chapel and auditorium before the Civil War. During the building's colorful history it has sevred as a Civil War military hospital, state legislature meeting site, arsenal and armory, science facility, and gymnasium. In 1976 the building was remodeled to an arena theatre (theatre in the round).

thanks

I didn't know "theater" had a different Southern spelling (I thought "theatre" was British). Are there any other words where the Southern spelling is different?

James Longstreet Conferderate General You've got the wrong Lonstreet per Drudge:
The Longstreet Theaters namesake, Augustus B. Longstreet, held strong views on the right to own slaves, research shows.
"Abolitionism seemed to him hypocrisy and blasphemy and as a minister of Christ he could not hold fellowship with those who rejected the Masters word." (Main Currents In American Thought, Volume II, 1800-1860, 1927).
It appears that James Longstreet was the nephew of Augustus:
