I know it offends your suburban/Mormon/pro-Islam sensibilities, but it must be done.... for peace believe it or not.
Instead of righteous indignation, why not tell us how we're going to stop someone who is going to kill themselves. Their's not many negative incentives available.
Never mind, don't respond. You'll say something dumb.

If someone commits a suicide bombing, we kill their family. Grandparents, parents, siblings, wives, children. We? You maybe, but please don't say we. I'm not into a Taliban lifestyle, thank you.

I cannot understand why anyone can just walk up to a checkpoint.
No one should be allowed within 20 feet of it until they disrobe,
Ditto for cars........am I missing something here?

It doesn't have anything to do with my living in the suburbs.
It doesn't have a thing to do with my religion.
It has nothing to do with THEIR religion.
It has to do with the fact that this country, and our President, don't murder people.
You're a boon to the Leftist protestors, I can tell you.

And it has to do with their being on
drugs.
Ollie North reported that the fedayeen are all ID'd as foreigners BTW.
Look to see if their eyes are red.

I have a copy of the Quran. Could you please give me the exact quote and where to find that? It would be interesting.
I can tell you where to find it. It's in the Bible. "Allah" aka "Satan!

IIRC, Kamikaze pilots were given sake laced with some drug or other, before taking off.
So there is precedent.

Aint nothing you can do about it...someone has to visually inspect the vehicles and someone has to visually search the people...
The terrorists simply bring along women and children to give the appearance of legitmacy..our troops can search 1000 cars with no problem...then kaboom one will get you
This happend to us down in the Mekong Delta...we used to troll for booby traps both command det and trip wires..
It seemed so stupid and was so frustrating...go on on patrol after patrol ..kaboom loose one or two guys but have no enemy contact other than the booby traps..
After you loose a good share of your friends this way you get pretty angry at both the people doing it and the brass who keep sending you out to get blown up but dont give you a real mission where you can get some payback..or at least a mission where you get to engage the enemy in a real fight
Meanwhile the civilans would smile and try to sell you things...the good ones along with the evil ones...they all had that same smile....and politiness to your face...
This is what Asymetrical warfare is all about...ask the Chinese its their baby..
This is what we ask of soldiers..and they do it....
We just need to remember not to let the left spit on them after they've come home and to make sure they are taken care of in a VA that isnt a Kafkaesque macabre joke...like the one we have is- imo

fog of war- chaos- city of 5 million- limited number of military personnel- conflicting missions- mission creep- etcetera-
There are numerous ways for terrorists to initiate at close range their evil acts- more so as the military goes from an offensive combat role to a defensive police role. A role which by it's dangerous nature, we do not want to engage in for any length of time.

Interesting link in your #25.
British soldiers who stormed Basra found dead and injured Fedayeen with recent needle marks in their arms.

Wow...where is all of this anti-Islam sentiment coming from?
You guys realize that by voicing things like this, you only perpetuate the idea of Christian's being Muslim-haters and only out to destroy them. In fact, you are, in a way, helping to compromise (albeit small) the US's mission to free the Iraqi people, then help them to rebuild their country, while keeping them allies.
By the way, dagoofyfoot, could you give me the location of this comparison betweel "allah" and "satan" in the Bible?
Oh, and about the suggestion that we kill the families of suicide bombers...I'm glad you aren't President, or in any position of power, for that matter. It's not as simple as that...maybe you don't have any morals that don't justify killing someone just because. Even because their family member did something is not cause enough. While it might be a deterrant of sorts, it would not be done by the US government, for reasons of it not being morally justified, as well as labeled as terrorism. In our war against terrorism, we are going to become the terrorists, as that could only lead to the destruction of us, by us, unless we then too become hypocrites.

Exactly. Islam is not the enemy, per se. It is the religion that informs the enemy. It is evil, imo, just as any other cult is evil. But, there is no such thing as Allah. Allah is another of the invented gods, a god of the moon. That name is nowhere mentioned in the Bible. Allah may be an inspiration of Satan, but cannot be equated with Satan. Besides, Satan is not at this time in Hell. Islam, like any other cult, must be defeated and taken apart by truth and light. As with a just war.
Aim and discrimination.

In most Bibles that Christians read now (after many translations and who knows what else), the name Yahwey isn't mentioned. Yes, it is a Hebrew word, but it is considered God's name. Granted, some think it is a name that is not for the common to even utter...but others now use the name freely and in everyday speech. Just because you didn't read it in your version of Bible, does that mean that it is equated to satan and is automatically part of a cult? I think you have your definitions of cult and religion all messed up; by you saying that Islam is a cult, you could also say that Christianity is a cult (if you were to look up the definitions--ones that don't relate to each other, i.e. no comparisons to the other one w/in the definition--you will find that a cult and a religion have very close definitions, thus making it difficult, if not impossible to throw the name cult out at any group).
Where in the world did you get the 'information' that Allah is a god of the moon? Now, granted, I tend to have a somewhat strange overall veiw of religions and gods in general...I won't go into my own religous beliefs here, though...this is slowly turning into a theological discussion that will be impossible to keep up online...I would love to have this discussion while sitting with a group of people willing to listen and debate (in a friendly manner).
We are losing sight of the original intention of this thread...
Hopefully, these four who were injured will heal quickly enough; thank goodness they weren't killed...

Oh, by the way, just in case you hadn't figured it out yet, I don't slam a religion until I understand it, and thus far, I do not yet understand Islam and what it is all about...I can form small opinions based upon what little information I have, but I must always keep my eyes and ears open for more information that may change my veiws, or simply make them stronger.
This is why I keep asking for citation of documentation of the claims you are making...because I have this itch to learn more about everything...

Instead of righteous indignation, why not tell us how we're going to stop someone who is going to kill themselves. Their's not many negative incentives available. I can tell you the "eye-for-an-eye" method hasn't exactly stopped these bombers in Israel has it?
What is more effective, bulldozing the home of a terrorist's family or cutting off the financial inducement to create more suicide bombers? Seems to me we've just cut off a major source of that financial benefit.
In an open society, we will never be able to prevent someone that wants to off themselves in a crowd. But they will eventually eliminate their own gene pool if we take away the incentives for terror.
It's not going to happen overnight, nor likely in this generation but it can happen and without resorting to Saddam's tactics to accomplish it.

we kill their family. Grandparents, parents, siblings, wives, children.
That will never fly. How about 5-10 year jail terms as coconspirators?

"We don't know what other drugs were used but it is now believed these people were pumped full of something beforehand to give them strength against a vastly superior force. How else would someone be able to leap on to the back of a tank that size? This all started centuries ago with the "Assassins", so named because they were high on Hashish when they went out to kill their targets.
These guys sound like the more 'chemically-enhanced' versions.

we kill their family. Grandparents, parents, siblings, wives, children.Bill, the above was LibKills idea.
My idea is to drop appropriately targeted cruise missiles as a response to externally-sourced terror bombings in Iraq.
A precedent has been set for that type of response to terror.
I say give one clear unambiguous message to Iran, Libya, Syria, etc. that if their nationals enter Iraq and inflict terror, they get a missile in return.
After a few terror training camps are reduced to ashes & rubble, they'll begin to catch on.
To: mickie
am I missing something here? Well, it probably isn't too practical to make everyone in Iraq strip naked every time they want to cross a bridge or something. Our soldiers would become very unpopular very quickly.
However, I think evey checkpoint should be made as secure as possible. I'm sure there would be ways to increase security.

Suicide bombers are called martyrs by islamic clerics... thet means they get to go to the whorehouse heaven of their allah. 72 virgins, girl or boy... of their choice. Perpetual SEX in "a garden of earthy delights".
Now, the Bible doesn't promise a whorehouse heaven.... only islam does such a thing. BIG DIFFERENCE THERE!!!
That means to me, that their allah is NOT the same GOD as the GOD of the Christians. Rewards and heaven do NOT even compare in the two books.
Now, if YOU think Jesus Christ promised you a ROSE GARDEN and girl/boy whores in heaven... well, baby, you better go back and read the BIBLE again. : ^ )
