Kelly Crabb, who reportedly has negotiated contracts for Paul McCartney, Dave Matthews and Muhammad Ali, was hired a week ago, said Chris Thomas, the family's spokesman.
According to his firm's Web site, Crabb's areas of practice include motion picture, television and other programming production and financing; composer agreements, personal appearances and motion picture distribution.
"These kind of contracts are very specialized," Thomas said.
Crabb received bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young University before earning a law degree from Columbia University in 1984. He also worked for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.
Elizabeth, now 15, was abducted from her bedroom on the night of June 5. On March 12, she was found in a Salt Lake suburb with her alleged kidnappers.
Nah, no bricks, man, just shoot up the TV Taxi-Driver style. Sentiments echoed. Retch, puke, blech.
This was a simple runaway-kid story from the beginning, and the family all KNREW it- why do you think they had such touching "Faith" that their little harp-playing angel was still alive?
And, as others have said, gee, I just can't see any reason she'd want to run away from a family like THIS. Now they're acting as her pimps. Wonderful. Touching. I wonder who will play her in the TV movie (*puke*). Maybe Christopher Walken can do the dad. Would be fitting.
Sorry- grumpy this morning.
Heh, grumpy all the time, and this one is a pet peeve of mine. So many kids go missing. This family played the media like a fiddle after lying and expending valuable taxpayer resources, and now they're going to kick back and get rich off of a story that's -- weird and disturbing at best. Whore the daughter out for cash.
One last *retch*, and Dear God, if there's any chance left of this poor & confused girl growing up normally, throw her a lifeline, or at least a bone, PLEASE, she needs it.

Yeah. If you mean out of the frying pan, into the fire, sure, I guess she's safe. I doubt she'll ever have a normal life. The scum who kidnapped her is only a step below the scum that's going to whore her out to the media. Namely, her own family.
Triple-retch.
Amen. I hope Elizabeth can eventually legitimately get away from these whackos and preserve some degree of normalcy to her life...but that's a far-flung hope. The only person I really sympathize is with is Elizabeth herself -- I can't imagine what it would be like growing up in that household, and, after just dodging the bullet on my own mother having cancer, I once again have a chance to step back and marvel at how amazing and great *my* parents are, God Bless them, and how lucky I was to end up in a normal (and fun -- or, well, at least we put the "fun" in "dysfunctional", if you want to take issue, heh) family. THANK GOD.
I predict that if the Smart family keeps up with the pimping process and Elizabeth willingly goes along with it -- is lured by the cash and the 15 minutes of fame -- we'll be seeing her in the future, but this time in mug shots and rehab clinics. :-(
Aye, indeed, we were flamed vigorously, will still be flamed vigorously, but I am still with you. Something is going on. This whole thing stinks, and now with the book and movie rights, it just *reeks*. Neither my gut nor my brain accept the Smart's tale.
This is what a lot of us, myself included, have leaned towards. Not a sloppy investigation at all -- a very tight-lipped downgrade from kidnapping to runaway.
God bless your mother, and thank Goodness she's still with us. I feel the same about my own folks, and am extremely grateful for their health, sanity, love, etc.
(eating crow on this one is tough, whichever side you started on and whichever side you flipped to -- highly emotionally charged story, so I salute you for admitting you're eating crow, but am interested as to which bit you're chewing on)
I know. But just bear in mind that that descent is probably totally out of her control (which makes me feel even WORSE for her). The caveat always stands that I could be completely wrong about all of this, that the Smarts could be straight up, but this part of it -- the book & movie rights -- is reprehensible ANY way you look at it, on the parents' part.
God bless your mother, and thank Goodness she's still with us. I feel the same about my own folks, and am extremely grateful for their health, sanity, love, etc.
Thank you *so* much, I really appreciate that. The poor woman has had, in the space of fifteen months, a lung cancer scare, a burst appendix and emergency appendectomy, then two days OUT of the hospital on that one she collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage...and she managed to catch every bit of luck she could (thank God my father found her in time), no brain damage, no stroke (possibly a small one but we're not sure), she's walking, talking, back to her old self, then wham, we had the ovarian cancer scare, now she's through that, but needless to say it's taken a great toll on her (and us), and once again, I really appreciate the kind words.
And, tangentially, I cannot praise Mass General Hospital enough, and the staff that nursed my mother back to life after the aneursym (same staff that very gravely told us she probably wouldn't make it out of the hospital -- it was honesty we needed to hear at the time, and I thank them for that, too) -- and whoever the hell shot that doctor today should fry. Grrrr. Anyway, if I get hurt severely in any way, I sure as heck know I'm going to be shouting, "Take me to Mass General! Nowhere else!" as much as I can. :-)
Back to the main point, though, this, to me -- if I'm right about my suspicions -- yet another further anecdotal story that can be filed away under "Decay of the American Family". The moral relativists and multiculturalists and...well, your garden-variety liberals, the usual suspects...have been trying to destroy the normal family for decades. In some cases it works and lunatics get to raise children. In other cases, there are still good parents out there who care for their children with all their heart, would NEVER pimp their child out like this, would have (if I'm right) admitted that she ran away *immediately* so as to get her back home *faster*. We lucked out, getting good families, we really did, and I send all my best to you & yours as well in continued health, good spirit, and all that good stuff.
