FREEPER REPORT APRIL 5, 2003: Pro-America Rally with Glenn Beck in Clearwater, Florida

I'm probably the first person from Free Republic who attended the Coachman Park Flag Fest that's already home. I selected the front page for this report because those of us in attendance from Free Republic invited rally participants to visit us here. It will be much easier for them to be welcomed on the front page. Welcome.
I will have pictures from the rally and will be posting other links here. Flyers were flying in addition to all the American, British and military flags. There were some great signs too.
I was interviewed for local television but as time is always short, I'm not going to stay glued to the set for a glimpse of me. Let's just say that my sign may be on local Channel 13 (Fox) over the reporter's head at the anti-war moshpit, numbering a dozen or so. The short interview which is about that very sign is for local UPN Ch.4 or Ch. 9, I can't say for sure.

That group was chanting 'USA' at the protestors (before the police intervened).
Thanks for the report - hope all the judges are out of town this weekend!

Boy! Talk about an uphill battle! Keep plugging away - at some point our support for the troops becomes to big to ignore - even by ignoramusses.
Hope I spelled that correctly! ;)

You'd need a picture host in the net if they are your personal jpegs.
Tunehead54, do you have any suggestions for threeputtindude re: pictures? The more the better, I say.

You need to find a picture hosting sight where the pictures don't disappear in a half an hour. If you can find a picture hosting sight, the formula for posting pictures is
. After you right click to get the properties of the jpeg, you click copy. Then you paste the url for the jpeg between the quotes and click paste.
This thread will be up all week so take your time. I'd like to see your pictures. Are they on a floppy or a cd? FV

I'd say it was more like 20K because people kept coming, even as I was heading towards the parking lot. I couldn't make a right turn so I took the beach route to exit. I never saw the Gulf and forgot to look when I drove over the Sand Key Bridge. I'll just have to go to the beach sometime but it's always in my thoughts.

Thanks antijen for keeping me on your ping list. These words were handed to me at the rally in exchange for FR's url:
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and Patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.
The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no ch ance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." John Stuart Mill, Philosopher 1806-1873

Then you saw my arm, windchime and my sign waving over the reporter's head. A closeup of the sign is somewhere in 1-50 of this thread.
All we need to do next time is HAVE ONE HUGE FREEREPUBLIC.COM sign so that we can find everybody.

Thank goodness I'm a computer expert - I was trying to transfer some more pics and it kept locking up -
finally I checked the log and saw that my online account was full. So duh! delete the stuff to make more room! Idiot. I fixed the most recent stuff but happily here's some more pics:
Great Anti-War sign!
The other side:
Now that's a FLAG!
The one in back guys! Although the one in "front" is nice too.
More to come ...

With all due respect, name tags, bumper sticker etal are a waste of time, energy and money for events like this particular one where a sea of humanity obviates personal identification.
Bumper stickers wouldn't have helped as our parked cars were dispersed over miles of Clearwater streets. You grabbed whatever obscure spot you could find and then walked and walked to the park.
I had my FR bumper sticker on, plus freeper ID on my shirt but this didn't do any good when dealing with the logistics of an elbow-to-elbow crowd of thousands and far-flung isolated cars.
What we need is a FReeper flag or pennant attached to a HIGH stick or post, visible from near or far. Other FR ID's work fine in freeps where there are smaller groups.
We pick up pointers as we go along, and this is one of them. I sure did miss hooking up with other freepers and not being able to have lunch together. Next time, we'll have the problem solved, I'm sure.

I'll look into it. Usually we have them and give them away at FR events. I know they will be in the goodie bags we give away for the cruise.
