ABC NEWS.COM story:
U.S. POW Rescued
U.S. forces have rescued Army Pfc. Jessica Lynch, held captive in Iraq for several days, sources told ABCNEWS. Earlier, a message purportedly from Saddam Hussein called on Iraqis to wage a holy war.

I know. But, I just wanted to hear that we found Saddam & UBL's remains at the bottom of the same cave.

You and me both. I would have driven up to your place and we could have danced in the street.
To: Dead Dog
Wonder how much this has influenced the speed at which we are moving. Seems otherwise, we would have waited to soften them up a little more and get the new units in place.

Well, it's really good news but they need to have some sense of proportion with these announcements -- telling networks to run it live??? They could have just done this at tomorrow's regular briefing.
They need a little help with the PR thing, and they need to have a sense of proportion. It can be really good news and still be small news not big news. For small news, you should play it cool and give the impression that "of course we're going to work hard to get our people rescued".

Thanks...for a moment I thought I'd passed out. : )

As much as I dislike the news guys, they wouldn't have told if they weren't told! I think some people in CentCom need to keep quiet.

but is this the best briefer they could find in the whole military? Possibly for this theater. I understand your gripe because PR is such a big deal. However, I found the assumption of "affirmative action" to be crass at best.

I think Vince Brooks was pretty mad. When is the military going tp learn not to tell the press beforehand and ask them not to tell. The Media SUCKS. They can't help themselves.
JESSICA LYNCH confirmed
To: lmavk
Brooks is superb, very dry wit. The other day when the hacks were complaining that he wasn't giving them any information so why should they still come to the briefings, he quietly said, "well that's entirely your choice" and when they continued to accuse him of dodging their questions he quietly said something like "that probably entitles me to a pay raise." YOU just have to pay attention and not be blinded by preconceived notions.

No, he did something you haven't done, and likely you don't know how to begin. It's called accomplishment, or he wouldn't be a brigadier general and chief spokesman for CENTCOM.
Just an observation from retired Army vet.
