IMO, they built this up with all the hype...I thought for sure it was Speicher.

Did CENTCOM announce that? (Sorry, I'm trying to follow online...)
To: dep
well, that pretty much sucked. i think i'm beginning to see why the d.o.d has some serious p.r. problems. you do not awaken the entire friggin news corps and read them one news-free sentence. Maybe you do.
First you drop hints that cause them to rave that the troops are bogged down, meeting fierce opposition and taking an operational pause. Then the next day, you casually mention that the Battle for Baghdad is underway.
Maybe the DoD are the scientists, and the feckless journalists are little white rats that keep pressing the food bar earnestly, never knowing if they'll get a food pellet or a nasty shock on their little rat feet...

Yoni, I love that Ronald Reagan quote. It's one of my favorites.
"Republicans believe every day is 4th of July, but Democrats believe every day is April 15." - Ronald Reagan

Just logging in, VC, what's up?

You'd think we, of all people, would be more suspicious.
To: Right_in_Virginia
Shep sure did sell that story...not that it wasn't great but I think he overplayed the hand a bit unless there's more going on we don't know yet...

I'm beginning to wonder how Brooks got this job, uhhh, could this be affirmative action at work? That was a totaly uncalled for comment.

Heard earlier Pentagon triple checks everything. Shep said they are also going to triple check before they release it.

Yes, how do you know that?NBC,MSNBC, and CNBC.
Also independent confirmation from another network's internal email.

She was in 507th Maintenance Company, listed as missing. Rescued by successful special forces operation.
That's great. I'm glad that a 19 year old American female is not going to be subject to a bunch of creepy Muslim misogynists.

Sounds like they have been unable to get in touch with the family and wonder if that was the delay!the cheapest p.r. agency in the smallest backwater mud-hut village anywhere on the entire planet would tell you that you take care of that before you call the news conference. (though it was hilarious just now to hear wolf blitzer refer to it as "dramatic," because he has no idea whether it was dramatic or not. might be that the bad guys drove him/her to the front line and said, "take. drive us crazy. talk talk talk all the time.")
anyway, the pentagon does not need a pissed-off press corps in doha right now, but that's certainly what they have. and i don't blame the press corps in the slightest in this case.

You obviously know nothing about the military -- General Brooks briefs what he is told. He doesn't plan the briefing!

Thank God and those that rescued her!

Maybe the DoD are the scientists, and the feckless journalists are little white rats that keep pressing the food bar earnestly, never knowing if they'll get a food pellet or a nasty shock on their little rat feet... You would think after several times they would catch on to the "rope a dope" strategy.

Oh, I gotcha. Yeah, you're right. Shep and everyone got so excited, and we went right along with them! :) The perils of following live news, huh?
