Academy Awards starts -- any bets that the Oscars will be political -- make that left-coast, left-wing, left-out?

Who gives a shit about these self-absorbed, hollyweird imbeciles? I think we have other things to worry about. I'll pass on these idiots stroking each other, and, of course, themselves.

So? Tell me more!!! I want to know the following:
1-Lord of the Rings, did it win anything else?
2-Did anyone give a political speech?
3-What were they wearing!

I can't say I ever really watch the Oscars, but like a train wreck, I want to see the stars make fools of themselves if/when they opine on the war. Of course, I did this on Grammy night and other than Fred Durst reviving a theretofore arcane word, "agreeance", no one said anything.
I also flipped over to CNN today for a few minutes (a first in years for me, or since the advent of Fox News), to see the left spin. A few minutes was all I could take, but watching all FOX gives one and unrealistically real (coining a phrase) view of the world through the eyes of the agendized left.

They broadcast a lot of things overseas and would bet that the Oscars goes to some of the places. I refuse to feel guilty because I want to watch something other than cable 24/7.

That was a highly sanitized ABC NEWS war update. No mention of apparent torture and murder of the American POW's and no mention of the chemical weapons factory being discovered and overtaken. ABC NEWS knows that Hollywood can't be troubled with manifest evidence of the justness of the war.

I have to give the cat a bath. What a bummer, eh? This is my night to clean the litter box.

To build on what you said, I sent my daily email to the troops through the Canteen and told them a little about how beautiful it was today here in Kansas, how my hyacinths were coming up, flags flying on the way to the market. I told them how thankful I was for them without whom I would not have this day, this life, this country.

I have been waiting for someone to make a political speech myself but nothing. Also noticed the gowns tonight have been very tasteful -- much more so than usual.
My youngest daughter and I were in Hollywood at the Kodak Theater in December and I was determined to watch the Oscars this year. It is in the center of a huge Mall BTW with this beautiful long staircase going up from the street level to the Kodak Theater.

We don't ignore what world leaders and politicians say, nor should we ignore one of the worlds greatest propoganda machines. Some are called to be watchmen on the wall, some have other gifts.
I see your point. Especially when you are in a foreign country. I used to always watch the Academy Awards because I love movies but living in Germany for the past three years (we are back now) kept me from watching the Oscars live so I sort of lost the desire.
Don't want to be a party pooper for you all though and understand that some may want to see it for whatever reason. I just don't have the emotional energy to invest in the irritation this year.

Ok, I can't take this---Paul Simon. Trainwrecks I can stand; talentless midgets falsely claiming to be songwriters I cannot take, especially if his claim-to-fame is leftist hero.

No political speeches, praise the Lord. Steve Martin, in the opening remarks, said if you want to carry on be prepared for the dart hitting you in the neck.

Pay no mind to jugglers, actors and clowns......It deserves little attention. And this will be the extent of mine......
To: Bahbah
That's neat! It is exactly what the troops need -- they need to know that life goes on back in the States and how much we appreciate what they are doing!

noticed the gowns tonight have been very tasteful I guess that is how I would describe what I thought when I saw Jennifer Lopez: her dress was, well, completely covering her. Wasn't it at the Academy Awards where she famously and notoriously wore the gown that was, well, very revealing?
Re the lapel pins---is there like a schism, with the failure to wear a "peace lapel pin" a sort of scarlett-letter-in-its-absence, it's presence or absence forming a dividing line?

I've decided to not go to Blockbusters for a while, unless it is to rent an old John Wayne or Humphrey Bogart movie.

I missed Jennifer Lopez when she first came out in that dress last year but my youngest daughter came running out and brought it up on the Internet.
Definitely my tasteful this year.
I don't understand lapel pins either -- look to be friends of Richard Gere wearing them! Not a whole lot of people have them!

I flipped over to Fox and Greta asked one of the expert analyst-generals about the Ahmed Akbar guy (the muslim who fragged his officers), "What was he doing there?" which is a question I haven't heard anyone else ask. Hooray.
The only thing I would change is the addition of one or two words to the question, making it, "WTF was he doing there?"
