I apologize for this vanity post, my first.
But I think Drudge overstepped the boundaries of decency by publishing on his front page a picture from Al Jazeera, showing what is purported to be a picture of an American POW.
The Washington Post has an article on it, in case anyone is not familiar with what happened. So far all American Media has refrained from showing pictures of the Al Jazeera video. For Drudge to put up a picture reduces him to well, I rather not say.

"Something seems to have worked, I don't even see mention of it on the site...Excellent Job! "

Now you made me go to his site. It's 10:46 am PST, and the picture is still there.

On Guadacanal, word of swords flashing in the sun as the Japs beheaded POW's sure sealed the fate for tens of thousands of Japs for the remainder of the war in the Pacific.

OK, so your beef is with Al Jezeera and Iraq, NOT Drudge. My beef is with al Jazeera and Drudge -- for putting additional American POW's at risk to be tortured or killed as subjects of Iraqi propaganda.
I don't question Drudge's motives, but I do believe he is wrong and if I were an POW, that would be my concern.

I think about all the freepers who have loved ones over there, and how it would feel to see your family posted on the web before hearing about it from the Army. *shudders*
It is chilling. One thing I did notice about that photo that I found curious is that it appeared to show the underwear of the soldier. That is not military issued and makes me wonder if it may have been one of the journalists. Doesn't make it any less horrid though whoever it is.

then release the video. For the record, this discussion is about a single still of a mutilated body without a visible face. Not a video.

If it really helped catch the perpetrator maybe I would too, but I cannot think of a scenerio where it would. Words can be graphic enough, imo.
To: wizzler
Forgive me if I sound naive, but the impression I get is that 1.) you don't have a problem with Drudge's showing this picture and 2.) you want to "debate" this whole war-on-Iraq thing. How far off-base am I? Please enlighten me.

Get a look at the woman who was captured and I kind of doubt that she will be telling them anything that she doesn't want to tell them. She's NOT a happy camper! They need our prayers.

"They think we are all a bunch of softies who can't stomach the fact that some of our troops are going to get killed in this war."

It worked for them in Vietnam and Somalia.
Don't forget that 30-40% do NOT support the war and these pictures will increase the number of the "peace at any cost" crowd.
To: CheneyChick
Drudge needs the hits on his website. He will post whatever gets him attention
To: RAT Patrol
It seems by order of the White House maybe? all pictures are off the net and TV, but what about I heard some families may have seen them? Please enlighten a nightshift worker?

"These pictures demoralize our troops too. Just think about it"Not a veteran who has been shot at are you?
These pics will do nothing but bring up a righteous anger in our fighting men. Somebody mentioned "Little Big Horn", "Bataan Death March", "Andersonville", "Pearl Harbor", "Malmady" and the Nazi Death Camps. Many instances of Evil which spurred the men under arms to greater heights of determination to destroy the enemy.
To: RAT Patrol
I have to swim against the current here.
I would rather
not see those pictures, but...
There is something unsettling about the idea that every other country in the world, and every sandmaggot who wishes to can celebrate over the images, and the "world's most 'free' country" keeps its citizens in total ignorance and does not think enough of them to allow a choice.
To: FairOpinion
It worked for them in Vietnam and Somalia.it won't work for them now.
Don't forget that 30-40% do NOT support the war and these pictures will increase the number of the "peace at any cost" crowd.

The surrendering Iraqis are shown alive, well, receiving medical attention. THat is NOT equivalent to what the Iraqis are doing.
If we mistreated them and shown that on TV to intimidate the rest of the Iraqis, that would be equivalent.
I can't understand how people keep drawing moral equivalence between the US and Saddam.
