To All Posters of Articles, News, and Announcements, etc:
For the duration of the war on Iraq, we would like to reserve the "Breaking News" category for news items that are pertaining to truly breaking news stories. Please post other news stories to Front Page, Editorial, Extended, or News categories as appropriate.
For the time being, please post announcements or news of rallies, chapter events, radio shows, TV shows and other items that are normally allowed in breaking news to Activism, Announcements, Free Republic, News, State categories, etc., as appropriate.
Please try to keep vanity posts or personal posts to a minimum or post them to the appropriate topics in the General Interest forum.
(notice that I did not post this announcement in breaking news)
Thanks very much for your continued support in this effort to keep our news forum focused on the news and for making Free Republic the premier conservative news forum on the planet.
Jim

LOL, that tractor guy is NUTS. He reminds me of every farmer I ever knew in a way. You have to be stubborn to do that job.
Marc Fisher had a good column in the Washington Post re the police handling of this. The best sentence was: "Hello? Can anyone say 'tranquilizer dart'?"

A *lot* of us don't want it here. Why make the DU popular? Why care what they think? If we want to know, we'll go there and look.

Also, I'd even go this far:
Jim Robinson and the Admin Moderator are both probably real busy now because of increased activity on the site.
So even if they take a position that you disagree with, let's not ping them and debate them to death on it. Let's let the umpire's ruling stand and move on with play on the field.
Under the circumstances, that's the best thing to do. Even if you *were* right, fahgetaboutit. (Hey, that's what I did today when I got busted down from breaking news: it's a big club, and the key thing is not to whine if you don't like the ump's ruling.)
To: FreeTheHostages
Jeepers, I only asked why. I am not trying to debate anybody to death (what a way to go - it would take weeks to kill somebody that way). I am not really trying to be "right" - I just thought the matter was a big deal.
I really am not complaining about the thread being pulled - my question is why is this not considered breaking news - I was trying to open up a debate - not prove I am "right - heck, I know I am "right :-)

Ok, sorry. It's hard in cyberspace to catch the voice intonation! :) LOL -- I was just over *there* checking stuff out. Boy, they are in disarray. I love that.
We're probably getting *lots* of volume today so I'm loathe to get in anyone's way here.
Happy to meet you and, if you're not to annoyed with me, could you please tell me how you got your very interesting Freeper name?

Because what DU says or doesn't say matters not a hill of beans. The site is by wackos, for wackos and of wackos.

I've always wondered...
What's the difference between "Front Page", "Extended" and "Free Republic" anyway???
Any chance of adding definitions to those? And, as a bonus, even making it possible to subscibe to those without having to wait unitl you're lucky enough to stumble apon them?

Happy to meet you and, if you're not to annoyed with me, could you please tell me how you got your very interesting Freeper name? I have used this alias for a while. It based on a childrens story The Mouse and his Child by Russell Hoban. HBO did an animated version of the story in the early 1980s and that is how I came to know of it Basically it is story of a windup toy that consists of a mouse adult (a father) and a mouse child that are attached at the hands (remember it is a windup toy). They set off on an adventure to become self-winding. At one point in the adventure they get tossed into a stream. At the bottom of the stream was trash and debris including an empty can of dog food (named Bonz I believe). Anyway the Mouse and his child are trying to figure out how to get out of the stream the child mouse is looking at the can of dog food the can has picture of a dog holding a can of the dog food that has a picture of a dog holding a can of dog food that has a picture of a dog
.ad infinitum. As I remember, a fish comes up and tells them they will find the answer if they look beyond the Last Visible Dog - sounded pithy so I started using it.

I see. Sort of looking beyond the hall of mirrors.
