Speaker's Press Office
United States House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement of Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert
Regarding Senator Daschle's Comments on the War
"I'm saddened that the president failed so miserably at diplomacy that we are now forced into war," Senate Minority Leader Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.) told union workers yesterday.
(Washington D.C.) Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert responded to the above comments of Senator Daschle today:
"I was disappointed to see Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle's comments regarding the upcoming military action in Iraq. Those comments may not undermine the President as he leads us into war, and they may not give comfort to our adversaries, but they come mighty close.
"Senator Daschle has spent more time criticizing the leadership of President Bush than he has spent criticizing the tyranny of Saddam Hussein. Mr. Hussein is the reason we are at this moment in history. Saddam Hussein has a long history of brutality, a long track record of harboring weapons of mass destruction and supporting terrorists and terrorist organizations. He has terrorized his neighbors and his own citizens. He has made a mockery out of the United Nations for twelve years now, and because the United Nations will not act to protect its integrity, we will act for it."
"Make no mistake, Saddam Hussein is to blame for this war. This war is only necessary because Saddam Hussein refuses to disarm, refuses to leave power, and refuses to stop his brutal ways. I would hope that at this time of crisis, we will all work together to support our troops and our President as we move forward to remove Saddam Hussein from power."

And today, Rush smacked Daschle down good. He didn't let up on him. I especially liked Rush reminding his listeners of Daschle's hypocrisy about putting partisanship aside after 9-11, but I remember the famous hug between President Bush and Daschle differently.
After President Bush's awe inspiring speech to the joint congress, he walked down to receive handshakes from members. Daschle was there angling to get on camera. Rush remembers President Bush instigating the hug, but I think it was Daschle. I'll never forget that Daschle looked like a scared puppy, I swore that night Daschle was crying, he was so frightened, it even looked to me as if Daschle put his head on Bush's shoulder as if to be comforted.
But that was one of those foxhole conversions, and Daschle soon returned to norm...a spiteful, vengeful little man. And whoa! Back then, Daschle hadn't yet become the hateful man that the 2002 elections brought out. Losing the White House was bad enough, but losing the senate really shook Daschle up, fried his brain, and that's why he keeps making these over the top, unacceptable statements. But all the democrats are making the same mistaken judgements about the American people. Like the Dixie Chick, they don't seem to know we hear everything they say, we remember, and when our national security is at stake, we don't forget.

I couldn't agree more! Traitors like Tom Daschle should be tried for treason, he did more for Saddams propaganda machine yesterday than the madman could have hoped for. Tom Daschle has lost his perspective, if he ever had any, over his hatred for all conservatives and were I a union person, I would quit just because of Mr. Daschle. You can now see first hand just how Socialism works; it is an ideology so full of hate, class-warfare and destructiveness with no loyalty except to self. Keep the heat on the little man from S.D. till he has to resign!

Thank you, that was what I mentioned in my e-mail.

Please contact Senator Tom Daschle's office and demand he resign as Minority Leader after this statement. Since the RATs went after Trent Lott for his statement that pales in comparision to Daschle, it is only fair that Daschle step down as Minority Leader within the next 48 hours! I thought a step further was in order, I asked that he resign from office. The good people of South Dakota, though I am not one but know many, deserve someone better.
True justice would have him defeated in an unprecedented landslide during the next elections.

I couldn't find it on his site last night when I went looking after receiving the RNC Research article to post on here. His last speech on there was earlier this month to the American Legion.
Someone said that now if you send a webform mail to him, a pro-military paragraph pops up when you are done. Daschle is so dumb that all it does is irritate the people like us that are already mad.

Thank you much! Figure that he must be getting clobbered as he shut off his fax machine and has a little blurb about supporting the military after you send a webform.

France was NEVER going to approve going to war with Saddam regardless of the diplomacy. They have too much to hide with Chirac -- ditto the Russians.
She has a short memory about Gulf War I -- only reason the UN got on board was because Saddam invaded Iraq -- France and Russia threatened vetoes when we wanted regime change and remove Saddam.

Re #110: Thanks! Since Daschle's people monitor FR, they sure have had a lot to read today. My advice to them would be to tell their Senator to resign as Minority Leader -- he has disgraced the entire United States Senate with his tactics and his mouth over and over again and time to move on!
Senator Lott resigned as Majority Leader over his remarks, will Daschle do the same? Somehow I doubt that Daschle has that kind of integrity!

Very good idea!
Looking forward to seeing daschle defeated in 2004! Then he can live off his wife's lobbying job for American Airlines although come to think of it, if he is not Minority Leader, will American Airlines want her.
Hannity just called Daschle's remarks despicable!

#116........ Well said Budge.

Very good idea! Thanks.
I am always a little hesitant in sending comments to Senators (or Congressmen) for concern about my job (actually my ability to support my family), but his comments were just too much, and I am on my own time now. I may suffer some the effects of civil death to some extent, but I won't be stopped from expressing my views on my own time - just want to pick my battles.
Looking forward to seeing daschle defeated in 2004!
I can't do anything about it - not planning to move, but hope the good people of South Dakota make the right decision.

Unfortunately there are enough left wing extremists out there willing to pay big $$ for appearances that he probably won't have to worry. On the bright side, maybe his recent trip off the deep end is in anticipation of losing so he can assure a lifetime of useful idiot funding base for his retirement. One can only hope.

Wow, I didn't know there was a Speaker of the House. You never hear Hastert, just see him standing behind someone.
To: Sawdring
Speaker Hastert is not exactly out in front much! Tom DeLay is much more visible!
