I have refrain from shameless vanities, but feel that given the course of today's events, an urgent need to relay this request. Last wee, President George W. Bush had an urgent prayer meeting with a number of conservative evangelical ministers at the White House. This colleague of a ministerial friend of mine was invited to that meeting.
My friend's colleague expected to see President Bush tired and worn down when he arrived to meet these leaders to storm the throne of grace together. However, to this man's surprise President Bush looked refreshed and vigorous. When asked how he could be so peaceful, the President replied that he never felt stronger. The reason was that he knew that so many were praying for him. And he went on to say "when I am on my knees I feel real power."
Another minister at the meeting asked the President how the American people could pray for him in these trying days. He requested if we could ask God to give him clarity of mind to make wise decisions. He also asked that we would pray for his wife and two daughters because he fears for their safety.
In these hours, before our country embarks on what appears to be an inevitable conflict against a brutal and evil enemy, I would ask my dear Freepers to pray for our President, pray for his family, pray for his advisors, and pray for our brave military. To that end, I would ask that we set aside time tomorrow to bring these things to our God.
We are blessed with a prosperous and mighty land. Yet we cannot rely on our strength alone. Our help is in the name of the LORD.
Prayer for Protection against Oppressors. (A Prayer of David.)
1. Hear a just cause, O LORD, give heed to my cry; Give ear to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips.
2. Let my judgment come forth from Your presence; Let Your eyes look with equity.
3. You have tried my heart; You have visited me by night; You have tested me and You find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
4. As for the deeds of men, by the word of Your lips I have kept from the paths of the violent.
5. My steps have held fast to Your paths. My feet have not slipped.
6. I have called upon You, for You will answer me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.
7. Wondrously show Your lovingkindness, O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand From those who rise up against them.
8. Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings
9. From the wicked who despoil me, My deadly enemies who surround me.
10. They have closed their unfeeling heart, With their mouth they speak proudly.
11. They have now surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes to cast us down to the ground.
12. He is like a lion that is eager to tear, And as a young lion lurking in hiding places.
13. Arise, O LORD, confront him, bring him low; Deliver my soul from the wicked with Your sword,
14. From men with Your hand, O LORD, From men of the world, whose portion is in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children, And leave their abundance to their babes.
15. As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake.
Security of the One Who Trusts in the LORD.
1. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2. I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!"
3. For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper And from the deadly pestilence.
4. He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.
5. You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day;
6. Of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, Or of the destruction that lays waste at noon.
7. A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But it shall not approach you.
8. You will only look on with your eyes And see the recompense of the wicked.
9. For you have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place.
10. No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent.
11. For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways.
12. They will bear you up in their hands, That you do not strike your foot against a stone.
13. You will tread upon the lion and cobra, The young lion and the serpent you will trample down.
14. "Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.
15. "He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
16. "With a long life I will satisfy him And let him see My salvation."
At any rate, prayer sent.
-St. Thomas More
The Lord has been merciful to us and through His providential ways, saw that we had such a man as this to lead us in these times.
President Bush cautioned that this nation should deal in humbleness with other countries: because he is a humble man himself.
But the times require a sword and a man not afraid to wield it. Out President didn't go looking for this fight, and perhaps that is why he is temperamentally suited to lead us at this time.
He is also the most spiritually grounded leader in my lifetime.
Let us Pray as he requested.
Prayer BUMP for them as well.
Let us keep this going throughout hostilities, praing for the POTUS, Tommy Franks, the various commanders and our troops. Grant them all the protection of His preserving Hand.
Bump the thread.
Thank you Lord for those young men.
Protect them Dear Lord.
