Corrie, 23, was the first member of the protesters, called "International Solidarity Groups," to be killed in the conflict. Is this a hint of things to come?

Um, I have to watch it here - I was so furious yesterday watching the burned-out recycled hippies and spoiled high school students with 'capitalist' cell phones in San Francisco's demonstration that I may explode. If they even THINK of blocking the entrance to my workplace tomorrow, as they say they might, based on what happens in the next couple of days, I don't wanna go there......but one cool thing - at least the news covered the part about the demonstration being flanked from front to back by 'support our troops' people. Even had one interviewed on the air, which is unheard-of here. He said basically "We have to let our troops know we support them."

And further, if the "witnesses" are Palestinians, the veracity of the report, and/or the initial version of the story hitting the wires, is always suspect. There exists a track record of fudging the facts.Understatement of the day, by far.

"It takes guts to do that!" said the bug as it splatted on the windshield.
"I'll bet you don't have guts enough to do it again" said the car.

If the driver stops the bulldozer, will the Palestinians hold fire - or shoot him? Remember, he's working in a combat zone.

No matter how misguided, no matter how stupid, no matter how wrong this young woman is, I'm bothered by the cavalier attitude shown on this board.
She was still a human life. She was still an American.
I'm sad she will never have the opportunity to learn from her mistakes of youth. I would prefer we win by changing minds rather then by seeing them eliminated.

I'm sure the parents of this young lady have gone from years of frustration to a deserved level of devistation.
Were I her parent and knew her direction was cultivated by the liberal staff of a local university that staff would have every reason to be very afraid.
To: OldFriend
The ultimate price for such confrontational activism is sometimes not understood by the young. Not only is she dead, but an Isreali doing his job is now involved in her death in a way he didn't plan to be when he started his workday.
In her world, he is the villan, in his she is the perpetrator of a mess of her own making. It appears "non-violence" can lead to death and hatred as surely as armed conflict. There can be said to be little difference.

They are probably condemning themselves for not bring her up in the way she should go!!! More likely they are lamenting how unfair the world is, like Jihad Johnny's and Lori Berenson's parents. Obviously their ideologically pure little darlings can do no wrong...

Women From Washington State Shine for ISM
Monday, 3 March 2003, 9:56 am
Press Release: International Solidarity Movement
Women From Washington State Shine for ISM
Today's update focuses on two remarkable women from the US state of Washington. Rachel Corrie from Olympia writes an update on the Gaza Strip's hottest hot spot, while Susan Barclay writes a note of thanks to her supporters (yet still we wonder, is there a conspiracy of silence in the American press?).
Items 1-4 are from Rachel, and item 5 is given over to Susan.
Updates on the major projects ISM Activists in Rafah, Gaza Strip have been pursuing
1. Human shield work with the Rafah Municipal Water Authority (Leading to ISM activists coming under fire).
2. Direct action work aimed at stopping or hindering the destruction of houses by Israeli occupation force bulldozers along the border strip in Rafah.
3. Demonstrations in conjunction with community groups and individuals living in Rafah.
4. Investigation into human rights violations at the Mowasi-Tufah checkpoint, and in the case of men killed in tunnels near Salah El Dinn gate in Rafah, and in the case of the invasion of the agricultural El Hash-Ash area of Rafah on Sunday the 23rd.
There's more if you want to read...

One has to feel a bit sorry for this stupid little fool. Perhaps when she someday got over this little professor-induced radical save-the-world phase she was in, she would have grown up into a genuine woman with a genuine brain and left her incalculable stupidity behind in her feckless, vain youth. Perhaps. We'll never know now.
But one thing we do know is, there won't be any more protestors sitting down in front of IDF bulldozers for a long, long time!

To: Amerigomag
cultivated by the liberal staff of a local university Believe me, you have no idea -- liberal does not describe it. Seething, violent hatred of America is what occurs at that College (it's located in my town). They are anarchist, save-the-earth-kill-all-the-people, actively PRO-terrorist, they think 9/11 was very deserved and appropriate, they SUPPORT Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong-Il because those tyrants are opposed to the U.S. -- and all of that is just for starters.
If you haven't lived here and seen this college, you have no idea. You've heard of Berkeley? Well compared to this college, Berkeley is Liberty College.
I am not kidding.

...Corrie...was trying to stop the bulldozer from tearing down a building in the Rafah refugee campTranslation: Corrie, a terrorist (homicide-bomber)- sympathiser got her just desserts.
I have not a gram of sympathy. Rather, I should like to send a 'thank you' note to the IDF soldier who exterminated yet one more apologist for evil.

I agree with you, I do not find this funny. This was a misguided young woman. It's sad, and tragic. Stupid behavior, yes. She should have know she wasn't going to win a fight with a bulldozer, but I don't find it fodder for the morbid humor I see displayed here.
