If you tuned in to any of Kansas City's country music stations Thursday, you did not hear the Dixie Chicks.
Several stations in town have dumped the group's music over the lead singer's controversial comments about President Bush, KMBC's Jeremy Hubbard reported.
At a concert in London earlier this week, Natalie Maines, the band's lead singer said, " Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
The Guardian, a London paper that reported the comment, said Maines' remark got the crowd cheering.
Many local residents, however, were not excited about the singer's point of view.
"If you guys play another Dixie Chicks song, we'll never listen to you again," one country music fan told KBEQ.
The station logged nearly 700 phone calls Thursday, denouncing Maines' comment.
The reactions from listeners were enough for programmers at all three big Kansas City country radio stations to pull the Dixie Chicks from their playlists, Hubbard reported.
But some Dixie Chicks fans didn't appreciate the ban.
"There are some artists that I like that have said things I don't agree with, but it doesn't stop me from listening to their music," said radio listener Shawn Peterson.
One radio station is even taking the boycott a step further.
Friday morning, one local station will take the ban a step further. They have invited their listeners to come to the station's studios and dump their Dixie Chicks CDs in a big trash can, Hubbard said.
The Dixie Chicks are scheduled to play to a sold out crowd in Kansas City next month.

was glad to hear they were doing it.. didn't realize the 3 top stations were participating. If this reflects most of the fans.. they will be hurt from their actions. If it weren't for the people they offended, they wouldnt' be where they are today.

Jeez! Do any of you guys think these girls are hot? I think they look like they were out in the rain too long, then got run over by a truck. (Of course, I'm female, so what do I know about what men find 'hot'? LOL)

My CW station out here has been playing the Dixie Chicks rendition of the national anthem every day at noon. Strange, today they played a male group and not the Chicks... even on the liberal west coast, the stations are perturbed with what Natalie said. They are getting overwhelmed with negative calls.

No. I'll buy. I just don't think that I should be called Passive or old school or anything else because I think the fuss over the Dixie Chicks is silly. We can be on the same side without agreeing on a lot of issues. I think we need to all put more effort into raising our children to think and see through the Liberal crap. I have two conservative college seniors who came up through the Clinton farse and the reason they have never waivered is, "It doesn't take a village" "It takes active parents or parent". Let's shake hands and move on now. Thanks I needed a little scrapping today. The waiting is killing me. Have agood day.

Q104 (104.3 FM) plays Darryl Worley's song Have Your Forgotten that supposedly many stations won't play. Can't stand the Chicks.

You are preaching to the choir FRiend. I am homeschool Mom hear my roar...I hope my boys will never have to endure a Bill Clinton type ,so I am just doing my small part to kill of liberalism. No hard feelings. My main point is this is not your father's Democratic party. These people will stop at nothing, so neither should we.
The wait is killing us all, but I believe GW has a plan and in the end the wait will be worth it, esp. if it saves one of the brave men or women in uniform. BTW... My family thanks you for your service. We will never be able to repay the debt we owe to your family. For as much as it is worth, we will promise to use our freedoms wisley.

we could try to win some Dixie Chick tickets - I refuse to pay for them
And then go in with our Protest signs. Of course, we might get kicked out but that would be okay since I didn't pay for the tickets anyway

Two schools of thought on how to counter. Using the same approach as the enemy is one. Using a better one is the other. I haven't been sleeping for 49 years and I have seen the changes take place. But they tide is turning fast look how many Yellow Dawg Dem's have switched in the past few years. It's not just the elected it's the electers. There is a place for the in your face movement but with out the steadfast geezer conserves the Dims could get a hold. Though the wait is hurting I know there is a plan and GWB must play it very wisely and deliberately. The future of the world is in the balance.

As an ex social worker I have seen some really scary stuff myself. I am a recovering Democrat , and was kicked out of the liberal support groups for always being a bit off to them. They know no bounds, they have no morals ,they are not Democrats by nature. Hillary, Boxer Conyers et al are evil anti -American people. Their power is in the silence of conservatives. They must be fought by any means necessary. Don't for one moment think you can fight a clean fight with them. The balance of power is at stake... they are just as much a threat to our way of life as Sadam and the foreign terrorists.

I got on and they removed the entire thread where we all posted about Natalie's bad taste.
Losers.

True but the rank and file of their own party are getting fed up. We keep hearing from the squirrels that you mentioned but there are still a lot of rabbits in the party and they are getting fed up. I believe one of the reasons for their fastly fading glory (in their eyes) is that they have used the in your face too much. It's sort of like viruses becoming resistant to antibiotics. I have been a Republican all my life, my father was a dem til mid 60's. I have been a Republican missionary for many years. I have saved a lot of democratic souls by helping them find the light. I'll save more before I'm through. Don't forget my favorite modern theme, "War freed the slaves and War freed the Jews". I've seen many variations and like ehm all.

Has anyone already bought tickets to one of their concerts, and are now regretting it? You can't take them back for a refund unless the venue cancels the concert. But if you bought the tickets with a credit card (as most people probably do), you still have an option.
If your tickets are being delivered by mail, and you have not received them yet, when you do, mark "return to Sender" on the envelope and send it back. Then notify your credit card company that you never received the tickets, and have them remove the charge from your account. The credit card company must do this! It is then up to the vendor to prove that you did receive them. Without that proof (certified delivery, return receipt etc.), the credit card company will not reinstate the charge.
If you have already received the tickets by mail, you can do the same thing as long as you didn't have to sign for the tickets. Of course, you can't use the tickets after this without getting into legal trouble. Once you verify that the charge has been reversed, burn the tickets.
If you picked them up in person and paid with a credit card, you still might be able to have the charges reversed. Credit card companies will reverse charges for services if you are not satisfied with the service. You could claim that the concert is no longer what you originally bargained for when you bought the tickets - that the product or service is now damaaged or tarnished in your eyes. Again, once you dispute the charge, the credit card company must reverse the charge and it is the responsibility of the vendor to prove that the charge is valid.
I thought of this because my fiancee just went through something like this. She is a lawyer, and she had a client that didn't like what my fiancee told her. My fiancee told her exactly what she could expect to get in court, did all of the paperwork and prepared for the court appearance. The client decided to get another lawyer, and almost a year later, disputed the credit card charge stating that she was dissatisfied with the service my fiancee provided. They took the money out of her account immediately, and she was unable to get them to reinstate the charge, even though she was able to prove that the client got in court exactly what my fiancee told her she would get, even with a new lawyer.
So spread the word, Freepers!

I understand your point, I just disagree with it. I still think that the way to fight them is the by making a lot of noise right now. The rank and file are not jumping ship quickly enough.
Is there any reason to be a democrat now after what this country had gone through in the last 10 years? I say no. I think boycotting will get our wheels rolling in the right directon. At the point boycotting becomes over kill ,I agree with you the conservatives should stop the practice. You and I disagree when overkill is though..... in this casethe antibiotics has not beomce resistant because Dixie Chicks and others like them are finding out the hard way to keep their political ideals to themselves and friends.. or become political activists themselves and pay the pipper when the bill comes due.
